Post 7 splits with Parkston

HURON Huron Post 7 split a pair of games on Tuesday, and the Huron 16U team swept Sioux Falls Post 15 on Wednesday, both at Memorial Ballpark in Huron.

Miscues on the defensive end spelled doom for Post 7 in the opener, as four errors led to runs for the visiting Parkston team. Parkston put up three runs in the first inning, and it was enough to ensure a 7-1 win.

Logan Leyendecker opened the game on the mound, throwing four innings and allowing four runs, two earned, on six hits and four walks, striking out five. Tommie Martin completed the game with three innings of relief, allowing three unearned runs on three hits, striking out two.

The top of the order was productive for Huron, despite just one run scored. Trace Wenz had a pair of singles and a walk from the leadoff spot and No. 2 hitter Oakley Anderson had a single and a pair of walks.

Brady Feenstra walked twice for Post 7.

A back-and-forth game ended in walk-off fashion in the nightcap, as Huron came away with a 5-4 win.

Post 7 struck first, with two runs in the bottom of the second before Parkston scored three in the top of the third. Huron tied it in the bottom of the inning, and the 3-3 score lasted until the decisive seventh inning, when Parkston was able to push a run across to take a 4-3 lead.

Anderson Porisch led off the bottom of the inning with a single up the middle, and Bubba Peterson bunted to advance Porisch to second, but an error put Peterson on first as well.

The runners moved to second and third on a wild pitch before Cooper Bischoff drew a walk to load the bases with no out. Jack Pedersen grounded out to the first baseman to score Porisch and advance the runners.

Tommie Martin was then intentionally walked to load the bases again, but a fielders choice off the bat of Gabe Waldner cut down Peterson attempting to score but kept the bases loaded. Leyendecker walked to force in the winning run.

Layne Wenzel climbed the hill for Post 7 in the second game, going four innings, allowing three runs on two hits and three walks while striking out five.

Anderson finished the game with three innings of relief, allowing a run on four hits while striking out three.

Porisch was the star of the day at the plate, accumulating four singles and a stolen base. Bischoff also reached four times with a single and three walks while stealing two bases.

Martin had a single and a pair of walks and Leyendecker walked twice, including the game-winner.

Post 7 evens its record at 11-11 going into Tuesdays home matchup with Watertown Post 17.
