The Huron Public Library invites readers of all ages to join this years Summer Reading Program: Level Up at Your Library! So far, 637 people have registered to participateand theres still time to join before the program wraps up on July 25!
The program concludes with a free bowling party at The Plains on Saturday, July 26. Please note: Participation in the Summer Reading Program will be required to attend the bowling event.
Kids Korner (Birth to Entering Grade 3)
A highlight for young readers is Agtegra Day at the Huron Public Library, taking place on Monday, July 14, from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM.
Activities for children 18 and under will take place inside the Library and outside at Campbell Park. Families can look forward to a variety of fun outdoor games, including Color Tag, an Obstacle Course, Minnow Races, and Slip & Slide Bowling. A lunch of hot dogs, chips, and lemonade will be available while supplies last. It’s a fantastic opportunity for young children and their families to enjoy a day of active play and community engagement as part of the summer reading fun. In case of bad weather, all activitiesexcept the slip & slidewill be moved inside the Library.
Tweens & Teens (Entering Grades 4 12)
July is packed with exciting opportunities for tweens and teens at the Huron Public Library. Rumor has it that Bigfoot has been spotted in the stacks, and a lucky few will have the chance to track him down before he’s whisked away to a secret location. Sign up for the Bigfoot Safari, scheduled for July 15 and 19, and put your sleuthing skills to the test! In addition to this mythical mystery, the Library is offering hands-on activities like designing Hexbug Mazes, crafting glittering Dragon Eggs, and creating one-of-a-kind Dice Necklaces. Teens are encouraged to stop by the Library or visit hpl.huronsd.gov for dates, times, and full program details.
Adults
This July, adults are invited to test their detective skills in the Librarys summer escape room experience, Whodunit A Clue Mystery. A murder has been committed, and only the sharpest investigators will be able to crack the case. Teams of up to four players will have 45 minutes to eliminate suspects, weapons, and locations in this real-life version of the classic board game CLUE. The escape room is open to all ages, though it is recommended for those entering Grade 2 and up. Registration is now openvisit the library or the online calendar at hpl.huronsd.gov to sign up. While the activity is free, a $5 deposit per participant (cash or check) is required within two days of registering to hold your spot. Deposits must be paid at the Library Circulation Desk and will be returned at the event. Please note that cancellations during July or no-shows will forfeit their deposit. If the deposit presents a financial hardship, participants are encouraged to contact Angela Bailey, Library Director, at 605-353-8530.
