HURON As the country prepares to celebrate independence on Friday, the Huron area will have the opportunity to gather in celebration on Thursday in Downtown Huron.
The Dusting Off Dakota program is set for Thursday evening, beginning at 4:30 p.m and going until midnight.

Ribbon-cutting ceremony at the intersection of Third St. and Dakota Ave.
Show N Shine bike show in front of the post office
Classic car show between Second and Third on Dakota
Historic movies and popcorn at the theater
Food vendors throughout Dakota
Bouncy houses and face painting

Pet parade beginning at Campbell Park
Patriotic sing along at Centennial Stone Church
7 p.m.
Ping pong ball drop downtown Huron
8 p.m.
Street dance featuring music from Serious Shirley
Dakota Ave. will be closed in the downtown area during the event from Market St. to Seventh St. Side streets within one block of Dakota will also be closed, so traffic will route on Kansas or Wisconsin during the event.
The event is meant as a celebration of the downtown area and the completion of work that began May of 2024 on the stretch of S.D. Hwy. 37 that travels through the downtown area.
It is also a focus on the future of the downtown area as the city has partnered with downtown business owners to invest heavily into the landscaping and look of the downtown area to give it a welcoming look for years to come.
