HURON The Executive Director of Huron Community Campus, Doug Pietz, and Superintendent of Huron School District, Dr. Kraig Steinhoff, came up with the idea for a dual-credit scholarship for Huron High School students.
With the help of local organizations Sertoma, Kiwanis, The Lions Club, and the Huron School District Foundation, their idea has come true.
Each of these partners will contribute $700 per year, for a total of $2,800 annually. This money will be used to award twenty Huron High School students $65.55 per semester to help with the cost of dual-credit classes via the Huron Community Campus, Huron School District, and Northern State University.
The classes to be offered through Huron Community Campus and Northern State University are Speech, English Composition, U.S. Government, and General Psychology. Eligible students can start applying this fall. The applications will be available through the Huron School District Foundation.
Each one of the service organizations is dedicated to helping with the educational cost for Huron High School students, Pietz said. This is just another way for them to show their dedication to bettering the educational system of Huron.
The funds are to be given to the Huron School District Foundation Executive Director, Marianne Trandall, by the end of July.
