Huron Housing provides update to city

HURON Amy Fullerton, director of Huron Housing Authority, gave an update to the Huron City Commission Monday evening.

She reviewed the properties owned by Huron Housing, including Lampe Estates, on the intersection of Seventh St. NW and Illinois Ave.
Fullerton noted that Lampe was under contract for a private sale that will transfer ownership on August 1.

When asked by commissioners, Fullerton expressed assurance that the new buyer would not cancel rental contracts and/or increase rents by a large margin to force current residents out of the buildings.

She explained that Huron Housing served 168 families in Huron and the surrounding area in 2024, paying more than $760,000 to landlords. Fullerton closed by mentioning the agencys search for a new housing rehab specialist to take advantage of more than $200,000 in grant funding to update homes in the Huron area that meet income and project guidelines.

The meeting opened with Commissioner Rhonda Kludt reminding residents during public forum that Crazy Days in Huron begins Tuesday and goes through Saturday. She encouraged shoppers to shop local and support area businesses.

The commission approved a special on-sale alcoholic beverage application filed by Top Floor Events for a Chamber Mixer on September 9 at the Huron Public Library.

The commission also approved a contract between the Huron Police Department and Agtegra to provide on-site policing during a customer appreciation event on August 2.

The public meeting was then concluded, and the commission ended the evening in executive session regarding contractual matters.
