MINNEAPOLIS It was a rough weekend for Huron Post 7 at the Gopher Classic in Minneapolis, but the team was able to close it out with a victory on Sunday.
In the first game on Friday, Huron fell in walk-off fashion, as Excelsior Senior Legion won 5-4. Excelsior put up three runs in the bottom of the third to take an early lead and made that stand until Post 7 got on the board with two runs in the top of the sixth. Excelsior would get a run in the bottom of the sixth before Huron plated two more runs, forcing extra innings. After a scoreless eighth, the home team was able to push a run across in the bottom of the ninth for the victory.
Nolan Stahly went six innings to open the game for Post 7, allowing four runs on four hits and a walk, striking out three. Anderson Porisch then pitched two scoreless innings of relief, allowing one hit and one walk. Brady Feenstra came in the ninth, but he was only able to record one out before allowing a run on two hits.
Trace Wenz had a pair of singles and a steal in the leadoff spot. Bubba Peterson also had a pair of singles.
Porisch and Layne Wenzel each had a single and a walk. Oakley Anderson had a steal and Feenstra ripped a double.
In their second game Friday, Post 7 took the initial lead, but that was the only scoring that Huron would do, falling to Helena 5-1.
Feenstra went the whole way for Huron, tossing six innings, allowing five runs on nine hits and two walks.
The Huron offense managed nine hits, with Cooper Bischoff slapping two singles and stealing a base. Peterson had a stolen base.
A four-run second inning led East Grand Forks over Huron 5-2 in Post 7s first game Saturday.
Peterson started the game on the mound, going five innings, allowing four runs on eight hits and three walks, striking out five. Jack
Pedersen allowed one run on 1 2/3 innings of relief on four hits while striking out one. Wenzel closed out the game, getting the final out on a strikeout.
Porisch had a double and a single. Logan Leyendecker had a pair of singles and stole a base.
Post 7 got on the board first in their second game on Saturday and took a 3-1 lead after the bottom of the fourth, but Lincoln Hotel Group got three in the fifth and the seventh to claim a 7-3 win.
Pedersen went four innings, allowing one unearned run on two hits and three walks, striking out three.
Leyendecker went 2 2/3 innings of relief, allowing six runs on six hits and three walks, striking out one. Wenz got the final out for Post 7.
Porisch smashed a triple and had a single as the only Post 7 hitter to reach base twice.
On Sunday, Perham Buzz scored first, putting a run across in the top of the second, but it was all Post 7 from there, as they came away with a 5-1 victory.
Tommie Martin went the distance, throwing seven innings, allowing one run on five hits and three walks, striking out four.
Bischoff had three singles and stole two bases. Wenz had a double, a single, and stole a base.
Pedersen had a single and a walk. Anderson and Porisch each had a walk and were hit by a pitch. Peterson had a triple.
Post 7 (13-20) will host Brandon Valley Post 131 on Friday at Memorial Ballpark.
