ALPENA The 13th annual Brett Boomer Memorial Golf Classic kicked off on Saturday, June 14, with breakfast at Red Hog Pub and Casino in Alpena before moving to the Broadland Creek Golf Course in Huron.
Fifty golfers were joined by a host of supporters for a sunshine-filled day of golf. The winning team of Matt Mikkelson and Jason Schley won as Schley sunk the winning putt on the second playoff hole. Their names will be added to the plaque at Red Hog.
After golfing, the staff returned to Red Hog. Multiple door prizes were given away thanks to sponsors Stans Inc., Heartland Pork, Jack Links Protein Snacks, Alpena Co-op, Ellwein Distributing, Manolis, Dont Spill the Beans, Carlsons Service, Signature Plus, Taco Johns, Broadland Creek Golf Course, Lisa Kopfmann, and the Red Hog Pub and Casino.
Cash donations were also made by Todd and Jill Swenson of Wessington Springs, Terry and Brenna Smith of Houston, Texas, Smith Leasing, Calajean Kopfmann of Huron, Dave and Angie Uttecht of Huron, Ron and Kim Winter of Pleasanton, Calif., Jim and Paulette White of Huron, David Nobbe of Mound, Minn., and Bill Gross of Somervill Tenn.
Organizers would like to thank Ben Dragt and his staff at Broadland Creek Golf Course for their help coordinating the event as well as Benjamin Chase of the Plainsman in Huron and Kristi Hine of the True Dakotan in Wessington Springs for suport and coverage of the annual event.
