Brandon Valley sweeps Post 7 in regular season finale

HURON The Huron Post 7 varsity Legion team went down in a pair of games to Brandon Valley Post 131 in the regular season finale doubleheader Friday at Memroial Ballpark.

In the opener, the visitors pushed across four runs in the top of the third inning, and thats all they would need in a 9-2 victory over Post 7.

Brady Feenstra opened the game on the mound, allowing six runs over 5 1/3 innings on seven hits and two walks, striking out four. Tommie Martin finished out the game with 1 2/3 innings of relief, allowing three runs on four hits and two walks.

Layne Wenzel had a pair of singles. Logan Leyendecker and Oakley Anderson each had a single and a walk. Leyendecker added a stolen base.

Bubba Peterson had a stolen base.

A late rally fell short for Post 7, as they fell 8-5 in the nightcap, despite a four-run outburst in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Jack Pedersen went five innings on the mound, allowing five runs on ten hits, striking out three. Wenzel closed out the game with two innings of relief, allowing three runs on three hits and two walks. He struck out three.

Wenz had a pair of singles, a walk, and stole two bases. Cooper Bischoff had a single and walked twice.

Leyendecker walked twice. Peterson had a single and a walk.

Huron 16U picks up pair of wins
SIOUX FALLS The Huron 16U team picked up a pair of victories on Thursday at a triangular hosted by Sioux Falls Post 15 16U.

Huron defeated the host squad 12-5 in the first game of the day behind an 11-run explosion between the third and fourth innings.

Korbin Brock got the start on the mound, going 4 1/3 innings, allowing five runs on seven hits and seven walks, striking out six.

Colt Culver closed out the game with 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief, allowing two hits and striking out one.

Landon Hulst was on base four times with a double, a single, a walk, and a hit-by-pitch. He also stole a base. Josh Gilbert had three singles and a stolen base.

Parker Bischoff had a double, a single and was hit by a pitch. He also had three stolen bases.

Jimmie Martin walked twice. Diego Colon had a single and a walk, adding in a stolen base. Tyce Huber had a double and stole a base. Brock added a double.

Huron jumped out with four runs in the top of the second against the Brookings Bullets and never let off the gas pedal, coming away with a 12-3 win.

Nolan Stahly went three scoreless innings to open the game, allowing one hit and one walk while picking up two strikeouts. Sean Janes closed out the game with four innings of relief, allowing three runs on six hits and four walks, striking out four.

Hulst had a triple, a single, a walk, and was hit by a pitch. Jimmie Martin had two singles and was hit by a pitch twice. He added two steals.

Carter Porisch had a triple, a single and a walk. Huber had a single, two walks, and stole a base.

Janes had a pair of singles and a steal. Brock had a single, a walk, and a stolen base. Culver added a double.

Huron will take a 15-14 record into the 16U state tournament, which begins Friday.
