John Roache, 66

HURON John F. Roache, age 66, of Huron, slipped peacefully into eternity on July 16, 2025, in his hometown of Huron. Mass of Christian Burial is at 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 22, at St. Wilfrid Catholic Church in Woonsocket. Burial will follow at St. Wilfrid Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Tuesday.

Born and raised in South Dakota, Johnny lived a life rich in love, service, and accomplishment. Early in his career, he was named as one of the top two national salesmen for Schwans Foods in Charleston, S.C. Johnny earned his B.S. degree in Education from Northern University in Aberdeen and taught at both Pine Ridge and Sisseton-Wahpeton.

After his teaching career, Johnny returned to Huron and joined his father in real estate. He became part owner of Montgomery Agency and later founded his own brokerage, Selling South Dakota. Johnnys achievements in real estate included earning Rookie of the Year, the Rising Star Award in 2013, and being named Realtor of the Year and President of the Huron Board of Realtors in 2015.

Johnny served his community through various financial partnerships and Meals on Wheels. Johnny loved deeply and was deeply loved in return. Family and friendships were at the core of his life. His son Brad and grandchildren brought him both joy and pride.

A passionate collector, Johnny enjoyed restoring vintage cars and motorcycles. He also had an appreciation for all things unique and nostalgic. Music was another great love often attending Joe Bonamassa concerts or playing his own guitars. Johnny will be especially missed by Gypsy, his devoted dog and companion.

We take comfort in knowing Johnny is now reunited in heaven with his beloved parents, John Roache Jr. and Pat (Parsons) Roache; his brother, Marty Roache.

Johnny is survived by his son, Brad (Tressa) VanRay, and his five grandchildren: Madelyn, Anastyn, Kennedy, Theodore, and Livia, all of Carrington, N.D. He is also survived by his sisters: Sandra (Jon) Gilchrist of Bixby, Okla.; Suzanne (Curt Kempf) Vandeberg of Huron; and Carrie (Chris) Nipe of Madison; along with many nieces and nephews.

The family extends special thanks to Rick Jungemann and Roger Hunt for their friendship, care, and support.

Arrangements are with Nurnberg-Basham Funeral Service.
