HURON Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC) has announced Heather Chaplin, RN, BSN, as the most recent recipient of the DAISY Award.
Heather, a nurse supervisor at the hospital, specializes in various departments including cardiology, ER and ICU. She was nominated for the DAISY Award by a patient who wrote, She is a wonderful nurse and both times she treated me so kindly. She was professional, caring, had a wonderful personality, and was patient with me. A person like her is an asset to the ER department.
Chaplin finds fulfillment in the meaningful connections she forms with patients and the diverse opportunities nursing offers. I enjoy being the person that people come to when theyre at their worst. It sounds funny, but I find comfort in being my patients comfort. I also really enjoy the variety that comes with being a nurse. I have been able to add several specialties to my role as a nurse including cardiology, ICU, ER, nurse supervisor and even travel nurse. I think its really special to have a career where you can be so many things and always continue to learn something new, said Chaplin.
Upon receiving the DAISY Award, Chaplin expressed, Receiving the DAISY Award is hard to put into words. Its a special feeling to be recognized for doing your job, but thats simply what we do in this career. Im very honored to be this quarters recipient and it reminds me why I chose this career-to impact patients in a meaningful way.
The DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Award is an international recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care that nurses provide every day. The DAISY Foundation was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes after he died at age 33 of complications from an auto-immune disease to honor his memory and thank nurses who provide exceptional compassion and kindness to patients.
Chaplin lives outside of Hitchcock on a farm with her husband Cole, and their two daughters, Makenna (4) and Savvy (14 mo). In her free time, she enjoys life on the farm with her two daughters and cherishes moments with family and friends.
Chaplin is the eleventh DAISY Award winner at HRMC, with one nurse recognized each quarter. The department and shift of the award winner receives fresh cinnamon rolls to celebrate, as requested by the Barnes family. Nominees for each quarter also receive a pin recognizing their compassion and care. Nominations may be submitted by staff, visitors, providers and patients, with forms available throughout the hospital and online at www.huronregional.org/recognition-awards.
