Campbell Park evacuated during hostage situation

HURON Thursday night in Campbell Park was interrupted when the park had to be cleared by the Huron Police Department due to a serious situation near the park.

According to a press release from the Huron Police Department (HPD), the initial call was for a family disturbance involving a firearm, but when officers arrived, a hostage situation was encountered.

HPD evacuated the area and requested additional resources. Fortunately, after approximately 10 minutes, the situation was resolved when the suspect exited the residence and was taken into custody without incident.

The suspect was transported to Beadle County Corrections Center and is currently held on charges related to the incident.

No injuries were reported. No further updates will be released by HPD due to the incident involving juveniles.
