Huron golfers open season at invitational in Brandon

BRANDON With four golfers inside the top 15, Brandon Valley claimed the team title during the Brandon Valley Invitational on Monday.

The Lynx finished at 290 to edge Watertown for the top spot in the 10-team meet. The Arrows finished at 296.

Rounding out the top 5 were OGorman at 314, Brookins at 316 and Brandon Valley Black at 324.

Huron was 10th in the season-opening event with 372.

Carter Peterson of Brandon Valley shot a 3-under-par 68 to win the indvidiaul title, while Tyson Lunn of Brookings, Nick Simon of OGorman and Max Stemwedel of Watertown had 1-under-par scores of 70 to claim spots No. 2-4, respectively.

Jackson Burns of Brandon Valley rounded out the top five with a 71. Filling out the winning lineup for the Lynx were Maz Vincelli, who was ninth at 74 and Will Peterson, who was 15th at 76.

Ty Kleinsasser led Huron with an 88, which put him 35th overall. Emerick DeDeyne shot 94 for the Tigers, while Chase Schuchhardt and Remington Wipf had scores of 95.

Huron returns to action on Aug. 26 at the Pierre Invite.
