American Lutheran Church located at 155 4th St SE in Huron, will celebrate the beginning of the fall season with a delicious meal of chicken noodle, potato, and vegetable beef soup, along with barbecue sandwiches and homemade pies and desserts on Tuesday evening, September 16, from 5:00 to 6:30 pm. Families are encouraged to come and share an evening meal together.
A quilt silent auction will also be held in conjunction with the supper. There are baby quilts as well as full-size quilts on the auction. The quilts have been made by the quilters of American Lutheran. Proceeds from the quilt auction will be used to purchase needed supplies to make quilts for mission projects.
The American Lutheran congregation has a long history in Huron. It was first established in Huron in 1902 and continues to proclaim Christs love from generation to generation. Worship services are held Saturday evenings at 6 p.m. and Sunday mornings at 9:30 a.m. All services are live-streamed on the churchs Facebook page. Sunday morning worship is broadcast on 95.3 FM radio and on the internet at huronradio.com.
Coffee and fellowship hour follows Sunday morning worship.
Sunday School is held through the school year.
ALC provides Bible study opportunities and many ways to serve, such as becoming a part of the weekly quilting group. Every Tuesday morning, a group meets at the church to make quilts for the churchs mission ministry. A few of the places where quilts are distributed are: Lutheran World Relief, HRMC Hospice, Sleep in Heavenly Peace, Plus 1 Pregnancy Guidance Center, Jan Manolis Family Safe Center, Angelhaus, and more.
ALC women meet on the second Thursday of the month at 1:30 p.m., for Bible study, a short business meeting, refreshments and fellowship. All women are invited to join us!
An exciting year awaits the three- and four-year-olds attending ALC Christian Learning Center preschool! CLC is now entering its 44th year of sharing Gods love with preschoolers as well as preparing them for kindergarten. Pumpkin Roll

Cake:
powdered sugar
cup all-purpose flour
tsp. baking powder
tsp. baking soda
tsp. ground cinnamon
tsp. ground cloves
tsp. salt
3 large eggs
1 cup white sugar
2/3 cup pumpkin pie filling
1 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
Preheat oven to 375. Grease a 15×10 jelly roll pan, line with wax paper grease and flour the wax paper. Sprinkle a thin cotton kitchen towel with powdered sugar.
Combine flour, baking powder, soda, cinnamon, cloves and salt in a small bowl. Beat eggs and sugar in large mixer bowl until thick. Beat in pumpkin. Stir in flour mixture. Spread evenly into prepared pan. Sprinkle with nuts if desired.
Bake 13-15 minutes or until top of cake springs back when touched.
Immediately loosen and turn cake onto prepared towel. Carefully peel off paper. Roll up cake and towel together starting with the narrow end. Cool on wire rack.
Filling:
1 package
8 oz. cream cheese softened
1 cup sifted powdered sugar
6 Tablespoons softened butter or margarine
1 tsp. vanilla
Powdered sugar
Beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, butter and vanilla in a small mixer bowl until smooth. Carefully unroll cake, remove towel, spread cream cheese mixture over cake. Reroll cake. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate at least one hour. Sprinkle with powdered sugar before serving if desired.
Makes 10 servings.
Hamburger Soup
Ingredients
2 lbs. ground beef, browned and drained
1 quart tomatoes
8 cups water
1 cups diced celery
1 cup diced carrots
2 cups diced potatoes
1 small onion (1/3 cup)
1 cup shredded cabbage
1 tsp. sugar salt & pepper to taste
2 or 3 bay leaves
Combine ingredients in a soup kettle and cook for 1 to 1 hours or in a crock pot on high for 4 hours. You can add any leftover vegetables you have. This freezes well. Remove bay leaves prior to serving.
Pecan Pie

Ingredients
3 eggs
1 cup white sugar
cup melted butter or margarine
cup corn syrup white or dark (I usually use white)
1 teaspoon vanilla
Pinch of salt
Beat eggs slightly, add butter, sugar, syrup, vanilla & salt. Beat well and pour in unbaked 9pie shell. Do not press pie crust too tightly into the pan. Cover top well with chopped pecans & lightly press down into filling.
Bake at 350 degrees 45-50 minutes until when tested with knife, knife comes out clean.
Creamy Broccoli Soup

Ingredients
3 cups broccoli flowerettes
2 cups milk
1 medium onion chopped
1 – 10/34 oz can cream of chicken soup
1 shredded carrot
White pepper to taste
cup melted margarine
Paprika as desired
Saute broccoli, onion and carrot together in melted margarine until tender. Stir in milk and soup. Heat well. Sprinkle with white pepper and paprika as desired.
Apple Crisp
Mix together well & spoon into pan:
5-6 cups sliced apples
cup white sugar
1 Tablespoon flour
1 teaspoon cinnamon
teaspoon salt
2 Tablespoons lemon juice
Topping mix together well until crumbly:
1 cup melted butter or oleo
1-1/2 cups oatmeal (I use quick oatmeal)
1-1/2 cups flour
2 cups brown sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
Spread over apple mixture and bake uncovered for 30-40 minutes until apples are tender. May be frozen unbaked or baked
