Huron, JVC runners compete at invitational

MADISON The Huron Tiger cross country team opened its season on Thursday, August 28, in Madison at the John Collignon Invitational.

In the boys team scoring, Huron finished sixth, but all the teams were far behind Brookings, which ran away with a team score of just 19 points.

Madisons Dylan Gerdes broke the tape at 17:07.18, a distant victory over second place finisher Dylan Haar of Brookings, who came in at 17:32.54.

Among area runners, Kaden Ober of James Valley Christian finished third with a time of 17:33.26 and Levi Crandall of JVC finished 10th with a time of 18:41.41.

Teagan Lien was Hurons top finisher, placing 18th with a time of 19:33.07. James Weir came in soon after, registering a time of 19:59.21.

Eighth-grader Charleston Wachter finished 32nd with a time of 21:02.54. Max Radke finished in 21:40.81 and Emerson Sarvis registered a time of 23:41.74 to round out the Huron contingent.

Giddeon Waldner of JVC finished at 23:02.25.

The girls team title was much closer, as Kimball/White Lake edged Chamberlain 27-32. Huron scored 76 team points to finish fifth.

Grace Phillips of Chamberlain was the lone girl to break 20 minutes, winning with a time of 19:53.94.

Lily Meyer of Huron finished 11th with a time of 22:18.04 and Josie Vlieger finished 15th at 22:28.47.

Lily Swanson finished with a time of 24:48.85 for Huron, and Nora Pester finished in 25:10.92.

For James Valley Christian, Hadasah Olson finished 25th at 23:50.76 and Micaiah Brantner was right behind her at 24:10.63.

Rylin Wipf also ran for JVC, finishing in 25:53.08.
