MITCHELL When Hurons December Chase took the title in the final girls age group at the South Dakota State Pedal Tractor Pull on September 1 at the Corn Palace in Mitchell, she ended a strong day for area pullers that resulted in multiple youth qualifying for the National Pedal Pull to be held Saturday, September 27, in Mitchell.
Chase was not the only Heartland region puller to record a win at the state meet. Malachi Jones of Miller topped the 9-year-old boys category as well.
Multiple other youth qualified for the national meet by finishing second, third or fourth at the meet.
Finishing second were Marlene Miedema of Wolsey (4-year-old girls), Lawrence Nelson of Lake Preston (7-year-old boys), Adalie Winter of Wessington (11-year-old girls) and LeRoy Danburg of Miller (12-year-old boys). Finishing third was Adrian Winter of Wessington (8-year-old boys). Placing fourth were Maci Bussinger of Lake Preston (4-year-old girls) and Ellie Erstad of Lake Preston (7-year-old girls).
The national pull is open to the public.
