Huron Public Library receives a $2,000 grant for Feed & Read

HURON Huron Public Library received a $2,000 grant to support their Feed and Read program. The grant is provided through FCSAmericas Working Here Fund.

The Working Here Fund grant will continue to help to provide food to support the Feed and Read program at the Huron Public Library. This summer the program offered a weekly pick-up of food for students 18 and under in Beadle County. The food pick up was available each Friday during the summer reading program in addition to a few weeks before and after the program to help extend the food access throughout more of the summer break.

In the past few years libraries have been encouraged to provide students with food due to the impact hunger can have on a childs ability to focus and remain out of the summer slump. said Glenda Maxted, Assistant Library Director. We have a collaborative relationship with the Heartland United Way Backpack Program to bridge the gap when their program ends in May and resumes in the Fall.

The 2025 Feed and Read Program served an average of 114 students each week throughout the summer to help ensure students have access to food while not in school.

Huron Public Library is one of 200 organizations to receive a Working Here Fund grant in the second quarter of 2025. FCSAmerica awarded more than $1.7 million during the latest grant cycle ending June 30, 2025.

We are honored to support organizations dedicated to addressing food and hunger issues in our local communities, said Tanya Houska, regional vice president of customer experience in FCSAmericas Huron office.
