HURON The Huron seventh-grade volleyball team won its division during the James Valley Christian Tournament on Saturday.
The Tigers used set score os 25-7 and 25-8 to get past Highmore-Harrold.
Quinn Pell was 15 of 15 serving with five aces for Huron, while Grace Diede had five aces on 12 of 13 serving. Bentlea Fenske was 7 of 7 serving with three aces.
The Tigers then defeated Mitchell Christian with set scores of 25-19 and 25-9.
Fenske recorded 12 aces on 15 of 15 serving, while Natasha Vasquez-Morales had five aces on 9 of 10 serves. Pell had four aces, whle Javeah Mallett had three aces and Diede added a pair of aces.
Huron got past James Valley Christian with set scores of 25-19 and 25-16.
Pell was perfect on 13 serves with five aces for the Tigers. Vasquez-Morales was 8 of 9 serving with three aces and Fenske had a pair of aces on 4 of 5 serves.
Huron wins two against Pierre
Huron claimed a pair of wins against Pierre on Monday.
Using set scores of 25-8, 14-25 and 15-4, the Tigers claimed the win in the A-match.
Vasquez-Morales was 12 of 15 serving with five aces, while Diede was 10 of 12 with a pair of aces. Fenske also had tow aces on 6 of 6 serving, while Mallett was 6 of 7 with an ace and Pell was 6 of 6 with an ace.
Pierre pulled out a win with scores of 25-18, 22-25 and 15-10 in the B-match.
December Chase was 6 of 9 serving with five aces for Huron, while Moora Htoo was 7 of 11 with two aces. Sofia Hulst was 4 of 8 with a pair of aces Kaylynn Dubon had two aceson 2 of 5 serving.
Huron escaped with a 2-1 win in the C-match with scores of 25-23, 25-27 and 15-13.
Kiera Hanson tallied 10 aceson 15 of 17 serving for the Tigers. McKenzie Wilson was 3 of 5 with two aces and aShtyn Pederson was 3 of 5.
Huron will travel to play Brookings on Thursday.
Eighth-grade
HURON Hurons eighth-grade volleyball team went 2-1 during the James Valley Christian Tournament on Saturday.
The Tigers defeated De Smet with set scoresof 26-24 and 25-17.
McKenna Porisch was 11 of 15 with four kills to lead Huron, while Sofialin Lian had three kills on 4 of 4 hitting. Lylli Hofer was 8 of 10 with a kill, while Alyssa Urena was 7 of 8 with a kill and Arianna James was 2 of 4 with a kill.
Hofer was perfect on nine serves for the Tigers with three aces, while James was 10 of 13 with two aces and Lian was 9 of 10 with 2 aces. Urena recorded 10 assists.
Huron then needed a 16-14 win in the third set to get past Wessington Springs 2-1.
After dropping the first set 25-20, the Tigers forced the third set with a 25-18 win.
Hofer was 16 of 18 attacking with three kills for Huron,w hiile Lian also had three kills on 6 of 6 hitting.
Porisch recorded four aces on 11 of 12 serving, while Hofer and James both were 8 of 9 serving with two aces. Urena also had a pair of aces and seven assists.
Sanborn Central/Woonsocket used set scores of 25-18 and 25-12 to hand Huron its only loss.
Porisch had four kills on 9 of 13 attacks to lead the Tigers. Lian had two kills on five hits, while Urena also had a pair of kills on five hits.
Hofer was perfect on eight serves with an ace for Huron, while Urena converted on 7 of 8 serves with an ace and ames had an ace on 2 of 5 serving.
Huron wins two against Pierre
HURON Huron won a pair of matches against Pierre on Monday.
The lone victory for Pierre came in the A-match, where it used scores of 25-17 and 25-19 to secure the win.
Hofer led Huron with four kills on 11 of 13 attacks. Porisch had three kills on 6 of 11 hitting, while James was 5 of 7 with three kills.
Urena was 8 of 11 serving with two aces and had a team-high 12 assists. Lian was perfect on six serves.
Using set scores of 25-19, 22-25 and 15-5, Huron won the B-match.
Taelyn Larson was 4 of 8 with a kill for the Tigers, while Grace Feldhaus had a kill on 3 of 3 hitting.
Mercy Htoo was perfect on 17 serves with four aces for Huron, while Larson had four aces on 11 of 12 serving. Grace Htoo and Amaria Greene each had a pair of aces.
The Tigers won the C-match with scores of 8-25, 25-21 and 18-16.
Grace Htoo was 5 of 7 hitting with a pair of kills for Huron, while Tiana Parker had two kills on 3 of 3 attacking.
Adriana Glanzer converted on 10 of 12 serves and had six aces for the Tigers, while Lay Htee had four aces on 6 of 7 serving and Parker was 5 of 7 serving with two aces.
Huron will travel to play Brookings on Thursday.
