MITCHELL The Huron boys soccer team fell just short of claiming its first win of the season Saturday against Mitchell in the Kernel Bowl at Joe Quintal Field.
Mitchell escaped with a 4-3 victory against the Tigers.
We played a better game today and were able to find the net finally, Huron coach Leah Branaugh said. We passed the ball much better and played with intensity for most of the game.
We have changed our lineup a few times to find the right group and it seems to have improved some things, she said.
The Kernels scored in the first and fifth minutes. Sandwiched between the Mitchell goals was a goal by Maner Htoo of Huron on a corner kic by Juan Arevalo Morataya.
The score remained 2-1 until the half.
In the second half, the teams swapped goals on a pair of ocassions.
Mitchell scored in the 41st minute, with the Tigers answering with a goal by Biat Say in the 45th minute on a pass from Brando Coca.
The Kernels found the net in the 49th minute, only to have Huron pull back to within a goal as Say scored for a second time on an unassisted shot.
Jaxon Andru had 10 saves in the net for the Tigers.
Huron tallied a 3-0 victory in the junior varsity game.
Scoring goals for the Tigers were Aiden Maung, Hosea Lay and Diego Menjivar Molina.
Maung and Alfredo Fransisco Madero each had an assist.
John Say had a pair of saves to earn the win for Huron.
Girls
Mitchell emerged with a 6-0 victory against the Huron girls in a varsity game Saturday.
Wai Wai Lin had 25 saves for the Tigers.
In the junior varsity girls game, the Kernels won 6-1.
Isabel Wipf had the goal for Huron with Iris Dubon collecting an assist.
Kee Ler Paw tallied seven saves in the first half for the Tigers, while Rosy Wah had five saves in the second half.
