Four members of the Hitchcock American Legion Auxiliary Raymond Hart Post #84 were honored at a brunch at the Post Home in Hitchcock on Saturday.
Mona Kleinsasser has been a member of the Auxiliary for 73 years. Mary Gilbert was recognized for being a member for 50 years. Not present but also receiving recognition were Carol Gross, a member for 60 years, and Rita Waldner, a member for 52 years.
Each honoree received a framed certificate and roses in recognition of their faithful membership to the Auxiliary.
Deb Puffer, Unit treasurer, informed the group of the cost of membership for adults and for Junior Auxiliary members.
Paula VanScharrel, Terri Bixler and Gail Brock addressed the attendees, explaining the various projects and programs the Unit participates in.
Some of those programs and projects are: the annual Memorial Day Program, poppy posters, essay contests, scholarships, sponsor Girls State participants, present flags and dictionaries to local schools, provide school supplies to the local school, honor our Veterans on Veterans Day, and assist with Post Home maintenance.
Those who attended and are not current members were invited to join the Auxiliary and join in the efforts of supporting our Veterans, our youth, and our community.
Terri Bixler, president of the Hitchcock American Legion Auxiliary, said, This brunch was a first for our unit. It provided a great opportunity to get our message out to the community as we work to support our Veterans and foster more patriotism in our area.
