County approves adoption of 2026 budget

HURON The Beadle County Commission approved the final version of the 2026 annual budget at their regular meeting Tuesday morning.

The meeting opened with highway supervisor Jason Fritzsche. He noted that the countys five-year bridge plan was approved by the state Department of Transportation.

The commission approved two items in the board of adjustment. The first was a variance request, filed by Eden White to construct a storage space on the back of a building in Wolsey that will not meet setback requirements. This was approved.

The second item was a conditional use permit filed by Gary Mattke to construct a private family cemetery on land zoned as agriculture. The commission discussed the state laws that would be applicable to a cemetery, and approved the permit, conditional upon all state laws are followed.

The next county commission meeting is Tuesday, October 14, at 9 a.m. in the commission room at the courthouse.
