Hitchcock-Tulare gets past Wolsey-Wessington to win 281 title

WESSINGTON SPRINGS Second-seeded Hitchcock-Tulare used a 2-1 victory to get past top-seeded Wolsey-Wessington in the championship match of the 281 Conference Volleyball Tournament on Saturday.

The Lady Patriots, who are now 20-3, opened the tournament with set wins of 25-2 and 25-10 against Sunshine Bible Academy.

In other first-round matches, Wolsey-Wessington used a pair of 25-9 set wins to get past No. 8 James Valley Christian. Fifth-seeded Highmore-Harrold defeated No. 4 Wessington Springs 23-25, 25-20 and 25-15, while third-seeded Sanborn Central/Woonsocket defeated No. 6 Iroquois/Lake Preston 25-20 and 25-23.

In the semifinals, Wolsey-Wessington defeated Highmore-Harrold 25-15 and 25-23 to reach the title match, while Hitchcock-Tulare won 25-8 and 25-15 against Sanborn Central/Woonsocket.

Wessington Springs defeated James Valley Christian 25-13 and 25-15 in the consolation semifinals, while Iroquois/Lake Preston got past SBA 25-11 and 25-13.

Hitchcock-Tulare used set scores of 25-19, 22-25 and 25-21 to get past Wolsey-Wessington in the championship match.

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket recorded set wins of 25-20 and 25-23 against Highmore-Harrold to finish third. Iroquois/Lake Preston won the consolation title with set wins of 25-23 and 25-20 against Wessington Springs, while JVC was seventh with set wins of 25-19 and 25-19 against Sunshine Bible Academy.

No. 3-ranked Warner records sweep against Wolsey-Wessington

WOLSEY Warner, which is ranked No. 3 in Class B, recorded a sweep against Wolsey-Wessington on Monday.

The Monarchs won with set scores of 27-25, 25-15 and 25-19.
Makenna Leidholt had 18 kills on 39 of 43 attacks to lead Warner (18-5). Jaycee Jung was 30 of 44 with 13 kills, while Kya Townsend had five kills on 8 of 9 hitting.

Jung was 9 of 11 serving with three aces for the Monarchs, while Leidholt was 16 of 16 with a pair of aces. Reagan Wood and Tatum Hanson were the assist leaders.

Jung had a team-high 17 digs for Warner, while Keira Steer had 14 digs. Jung had four block assists, while Miah Leidholt and Olivia Marcuson each had three assisted blocks.

Timber Haeder and Maria Nelson each had seven kills for Wolsey-Wessington. Haeder was 32 of 34 hitting, while Nelson was 31 of 36.

Preslie Jensen was 11 of 11 attacking with two kills for the Lady Warbirds. Kendal Uttecht was 76 of 76 setting with 23 assists and was 11 of 11 serving.

Taylor Eichstandt converted on 12 of 13 serves with an ace, while Raya Toupal was 10 of 10 serving.

Shae Uttecht and Nelson finished with 20 and 18 digs, respectively, for Wolsey-Wessington. Lily Hoverson had a pair of blocks.

The Lady Warbirds, who are now 15-4, are now off until playing in the Battler Tournament in Gettysburg on Saturday.
