Huron finishes seventh at Class A State Tennis Tournament

SIOUX FALLS The Huron girls tennis team finished seventh at the Class A State Tournament, which concluded Tuesday.

The Tigers finished with 156 points.

Sioux Falls Christian won its second state tennis title in the last three years on Tuesday, finishing with 563 points.

Rapid City Christian was second at 378, while St. Thomas More, which had 290.5 points, edged Vermillion by point for the third spot. Madison rounded out the top five in the 11-team event with 281.5.

Huron had a pair of players reach the fifth-place match in singles.

Ellie Puterbaugh at No. 3 won to place fifth while Blue Shee at No. 6 feel in her match to finish sixth.

The other four singles players for the Tigers played for consolation championships on Tuesday. Chalie Sah at No. 2, Taylor Sorben at No. 4 and Brooke Hunter at No. 5 won consolation titles.

Hurons No. 2 doubles team of Puterbaugh and Sorben reached the fifth-place finals, but were edged 10-8 in their final match.

Hunter and Shee also reached the fifth-place finals in No. 3 doubles for the Tigers, but were defeated 10-3 in their final match.

Hurons No. 1 doubles team of Idella Meyer and Sah won a consolation championship.
