The 2025 Hunger Games winners are…

HURON The 2025 Hunger Games community food drive has officially come to an end. During this event, groups sign up to collect items which are then donated and used in the bags we distribute weekly as part of the Backpack Program, the United Ways supplemental food program at local schools.

This year, we had 10 groups collecting items, and a few more that are opting to host their own food drive later during the school year when supplies are dwindling. Winners of the Games are determined by the number of items collected, with the winner earning the right to host one of 2 travelling trophies until next years Games. One trophy goes to the team with the most items collected per employee, and the second trophy goes to those who collected the most items in total. This year, the Largest Donation Per Employee trophy will once again be held at Legacy Financial Partners. Kristin Hill purchased over 4,300 during this years Games, even managing to beat her own record number collected last during last years Games. The trophy for Most Items Donated is going to a new group this year, the congregation at Riverview United Methodist Church. Their congregation gathered both food items and donations to go towards the program, and with over $3,000 collected will be donating over 11,000 items.

A big thank you goes out to all of the groups that participated in the Hunger Games this year. Those include American Family Insurance, Carr Chiropractic, City of Huron departments, Cornerstones Financial, Dakota Provisions, Helping Hands, HRMC, Independent Health Solutions, Legacy Financial, and Riverview United Methodist Church. With over 30,000 food items donated in total, this will go a long way towards helping the local children enrolled in our program and keeping the cost of our program low.
