Area runners compete in region meets

Region 1B
WEBSTER With three runners in the top 10 and five runners in the top 25, James Valley Christian claimed the boys title during the Region 1B Cross Country Meet on Wednesday at the Webster Golf Course.

The Vikings finished with 11 points to claim the top spot, while Frederick Area was second at 29. Northwestern earned the final team qualifying spot by finishing third at 31.

Hitchcock-Tulare was 11th.

Kaden Ober recorded the win in the boys varsity race for JVC with a time of 17:15.50, while teammate Kolby VanDerWerff was third at 18:01.38.

Levi Crandall was seventh for the Vikings at 18:31.81, while Giddeon Waldner, was 13th at 19:31.50 and Keegan Loewen was 21st at 20:14.56.

Ipswich, which had five of the top seven runners in the varsity girls race won the Region 1B title with 12 points. Northwestern was second at 19, while Deubrook Area was third at 27.

James Valley Christian was fifth in the final girls standings at 52, while Hitchcock-Tulare was seventh at 85.

Northwestern senior Ella Boekelheide won the varsity girls race in 19:06.25.

JVC had two girls qualifying individually for the state meet. Hadasah Olson was 13th at 21:09.34 for the Lady Vikings, whi9le Micaiah Brantner was 19th at 22:22.25.

The Class B State Meet will be held Oct. 25 at Broadland Creek Golf Course in Huron.

Regioin 4B
GETTYSBURG Kendal Uttecht of Wolsey-Wessington won the girls title during the Region 4B Cross Country Meet in Wednesday in Gettysburg.

Uttecht turned in a winning time of 19:13.30 for the Lady Warbirds.

The Highmore-Harrold girls finished second in the team standings to secure a spot in the state meet field with 22 points. Herreid/Selby Area won the girls title with 22 points, while Gettysburg was third at 27.

Autumn Fallis was third overall in the girls race at 19:40.30 for Highmore-Harrold, while Whitley Baloun was 11th at 21:15.40 and Jaylynn Knox was 17th at 22:09.20.

Mya Fleming qualified for state for Wolsey-Wessington by finishing 13th at 21;41.50, while Wessington Springs teammates Alexis Roesler and Masyn Mebius reached the state meet by finishing No. 15 and 16, respectively, with tiems of 21:54.40 and 22:07.40.

The Highmore-Harrold boys team also qualified for the state meet by finishing third.

North Central won the event with a score of 11, while Herreid/Selby Aera had 34 to edge the Pirates by a point for the third spot.

Sunshine Bible Academy was sixth at 50, while Wolsey-Wessington was eighth at 96.

Gavin Hirsch of Herreid/Selby Area won the boys race in 16:12.20.

Reagan Sandness of Sunshine Bible Academy was third at 17:33.50 to qualify for the state meet.

Jordan Erfman led Highmore-Harrold with a time of 18:09.10 to finish seventh, while Karsten McPeak was 13th at 18:43.90 and Jayden Erfman was 20th at 19:18.70. Carter Webb will also run for the Pirates at the state meet.

The Class B State Meet will be held Oct. 25 at Broadland Creek Golf Course in Huron.

Region 2B
IRENE Case Carlson of Iroquois/Lake Preston earned a top-5 finish at the Region 2B Cross Country Meet on Wednesday at Glenridge Golf Course.

Carlson was fifth with a time of 18:40.72 in the boys varsity race to earn a trip to the Class B State Meet.

Also advancing to the state meet were De Smet runners Owen Anderson and Jordan Botkin, who finished No. 17 and 18, respectively, with times of 19:51.93 and 19:52.44.

Noah Baumbach of Sioux Falls Lutheran won the Region 1B boys individual title with a time of 18:14.43.

Irene-Wakonda won the boys team title with 24 points. Sioux Falls Lutheran and Flandreau Indian School were second and third, respectively, with scores of 33 and 34.

St. Marys claimed the girls title with 22 points, while Centerville was second at 29 and Arlington was third at 32.

Chester senior Emmerson Eppard won the girls varsity race in 20:40.58.

BURKE Sanborn Central/Woonsocket had a pair of runners qualifying for the Class B State Meet on Wednesday during the Region 3B Meet at the Burke Golf Club.

Emrie VonEye was fourth for the Lady Blackhawks in the girls race with a time of 20:44 to earn a trip to state, while Jackson Wolter was sixth in the boys race with a time of 18:07 to reach the state meet.

Mitchell Christian, which had the top three boys runners, won the Region 3B boys title with six points. Also qualifying as the team were Freeman and Gregory, which were second and third, respectively, in the boys standings at 23 and 38.

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket was sixth in the final boys standings.

With the top three girls runners, Kimball/White Lake won the Region 3B girls title with six points. Mitchell Christian was second at 28 and Burke was third at 35.

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket was fifth in the final girls standings at 47.

The Class B State Meet will be Oct. 25 at Broadland Creek Golf Course in Huron.

Region 1A
WEBSTER With five runners inside the top 20, Clark/Willow Lake won the Region 1A cross country title on Wednesday.

The Cyclones finished with 23 points. Aberdeen Roncalli, which was second at 32, and Milbank, which was third at 49, also earned team berths to the Class A State Meet.

Redfiled was sixth at 96.

Sophomore Kamryn Nesheim won the varsity race for Clark/Willow Lake in 19:48.02, while Emma Bochek was fourth at 20:46.35 and Cadence Bochek was sixth at 20:59.69.

Also finishing in the top 20 for the Cyclones were Jennifer Bevers, who was 14th at 21:47.27, and Johanna Vandersnick, who was 17th at 22:08.45.

Redfield sophomore Aly Gruenwald also qualified for the state meet by finishing 18th with a time of 22:13.30.

Deuel won the Region 1A boys title with 27 points, while Milbank and Sisseton claimed state-qualifying spots by finishing second and third, respectively, with scores of 40 and 60.

Clark/Willow Lake was ninth at 140.

Jeter Scoular of Milbank won the varsity boys race in 17:14.97.

Payton Moore of Redfield was 14th in the boys varsity race to qualify for state.

The Class A State Meet will be held Oct. 25 and Broadland Creek Golf Course in Huron.

Region 4A
CHAMBERLAIN Miller seventh-grader Truen Bast earned a trip to the Class A State Meet by finishing 13th in the Region 4A Cross Country Meet on Thursday at Chamberlain Country Club.

Bast turned in a time of 22:15.62 and was the lone runner for the Rustlers to earn a spot in the state meet field.

Senior Gabby Werdel and freshman Natalie Bowar just missed qualifying for state by finished No. 21 and 22, respectively. Werdel had a time of 23:24.34, while Bowar finished at 23:46.56.

Grace Phillips of Chamberlain was the top runner in the girls race with atime of 18:50.31.

Chamberlain claimed the girls title with 17 points, while Mt. Vernon/Plankinton was second at 36 and Platte-Geddes was third at 39. Miller was fourth in the team standings at 60.

Senior Isaiah Gortmaker also just missed qualifying for the state meet. He finished 21st with a time of 19:30.00.

With the top two runners in the field, Cheyenne-Eagle Butte won the boys title with 12 points. Mt. Vernon/Plankinton was second at 45, followed by Platte-Geddes at 53.

Miller finished seventh at 110.

The Class A State Meet will be held Oct. 25 at Broadland Creek Golf Course in Huron.
