Beadle County CFEL holds Fall Council meeting

Beadle County CFEL Fall Council meeting was held at the Huron Area Senior Center on Thursday, October 9 at 6 p.m. A program of music and humor was provided by JoLynn Parmely and Diane Clayton. Theresa Horn and Diana Barton provided table favors. A meal of lasagna, tossed salad and garlic toast was catered by Doug Stevens. Dessert was provided by Diana Barton.

Lori Walters from the Petricore Houseplants and More store presented a program about various house plants, their benefits to us, and their care. Diana Barton asked several riddles about plants and flowers at various times throughout the meeting.

The business meeting was called to order by county president Diana Barton. Maggie Cameron led the flag pledges, Deanne Ness led the CFEL creed and mission statement. Fourteen members and one guest attended. (Busy Fingers-6; Country Neighbors-3; BCNU-5)

A report about the 2025 SDCFEL convention was given by those who attended – Alison Dennis, Deanne Ness, Diana Barton, and Lynette Spanbauer. Issues for 2026 were presented. They are Save the Bees and South Dakota History. Each member is to fill in a membership form each year. The dues are to be given to Deanne Ness, Beadle County Treasure by November 1. The State Convention next year will be held in Mitchell, September 18-19.

Dianne Perry and Diana Barton led the group in singing several songs.

Alison Dennis presented reading certificates to Deanne Ness, Diana Barton, Sue Gose, Lynette Spanbauer, and Tootie Stahl. Sue Gose was awarded the member reading the most books in South Dakota. Certificates for 50 volunteer hours or more were presented to Deanne Ness, Diana Barton, Dianne Perry, Alison Dennis, Lynette Spanbauer, and Tootie Stahl.

Dianne Perry and Tootie Stahl each received a certificate and pin for 50 years of CFEL membership. Ellen Halter was recognized for 60 years of membership. The Country Neighbors Club was recognized for being a 60 year club.

Door prizes, which were donated by Deanne Ness, Theresa Horn and Diana Barton, were given out.

Dianne Perry gave a spoonerism reading.
