Huron inks four-set win against Cobblers

HURON After a tough match Friday against Rapid City Stevens, the Huron Tigers were able to dominate three of four sets to earn a Saturday afternoon victory over the Rapid City Central Cobblers at Huron Arena.

The Tigers claimed the victory with set scores of 25-14, 25-10, 22-25 and 25-16.

The first set opened with both teams really focusing on single-hit attacks before Huron got in system and took off on a 7-1 run early. The Tigers would hold the Cobblers at arm length from that point, finishing off the first set with a 25-14 victory.

As dominant as the first set was, the second would go even better for the Tigers. Claire Davis got the assignment of the first server and opened with an ace.

The Cobblers would stay with Huron until it was 8-6. Huron then went on a 15-2 run to take a commanding lead, using aggressive serving from Addyson Knight and Davis.

A block/kill by Aly Davis closed out the match with a 25-10 Huron victory.

The third set found the Cobblers ever-changing lineup finally finding a solid grouping, and they played nose-to-nose with the Tigers throughout the third set.

A late four-point run gave the Cobblers the edge they needed to claim a 25-22 third-set victory.

Huron held a three-point lead for much of the early action before heading on a 8-2 run to open up the game.

Trailing by 11 at match point, Central staved off Hurons finish with three straight points, but then Arian Pfitzer slammed a kill through Cobbler blockers for the 25-16 Huron win and the four-set victory for the Tigers.

The Tigers move to 6-10 behind 17 kills from Aly Davis. Jencie Goergen set up the offense with 37 assists.

Hylton Heinz had 23 digs to pace the defense, and Knight dropped in three aces to lead Hurons service attack.

The Cobblers fall to 8-11.

Huron swept the lower-level action, defeating Rapid City Central 25-15 and 25-17 in the JV match and 26-24 and 25-7 in the sophomore match.
