HURON On Saturday, October 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Huron Police Department andthe Drug Enforcement Administration will host DEAs National Prescription Drug Take BackDay at locations across the country.
DEA and its partners will collect tablets, capsules, patches, and other solid forms of prescription drugs.
For sixteen years, DEAs National Prescription Drug Take Back Day has helped Americans safely dispose of unneeded medications, those that are old, unwanted, or expired, to prevent drug misuse and abuse.
Take Back Day offers free and anonymous disposal of unneeded medications at nearly 4,500 drop-off locations nationwide.
The local drop-off location is at the Huron Police Department at the East entrance of City Hall, 239 Wisconsin Ave. SW from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 25.
In partnership with local law enforcement, Take Back Day has removed more than 19.8 million pounds (10,000 tons) of medication from circulation since its inception.
Collection sites will not accept syringes, sharps, and illicit drugs. Liquid products, such as cough syrup, should remain sealed in their original container.
The cap must be tightly sealed to prevent leakage.
If you are unable to make the event, the drop box is available 24/7, just inside the east entrance of City Hall. This box can be used year-round, to help you dispose of unused medications and not have to wait until a collection event.
