REDFIELD Loretta Olson, 89, of Redfield and formerly of Huron, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2025, at Community Memorial Hospital Avera in Redfield.
Her funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 22, at the Kuhler Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Loretta June Olson was born June 12, 1936, on a farm near Carpenter, to Edward P.W. and Mary (Kleinsasser) Hofer. The family moved upon her fathers passing, eventually settling in Huron where she grew up. She attended school in Sioux Falls, earning a beauticians license that she maintained the rest of her life, cutting and styling hair at her home and at the homes of her customers.
In June of 1954, Loretta married Arliegh Jenson, and had three children to this union, Randall, Regg and Earl Jenson. They later divorced. She later met Glenn D. Olson, and the two wed in September of 1969. The couple resided in Huron, raising their three sons who Glenn loved as his own.
Loretta was a dedicated person who wore many hats in life. She worked as a CNA at the St. Johns Hospital in Huron, now HRMC, before working in the community support center for ten years. The latter part of her career saw her working in home health until 2018, when she was 82. Loretta continued to live at home until July of 2025, when she entered assisted living in Redfield. She lived there until she went peacefully with her Lord.
She also had many hobbies, such as maintaining her rabbit doll collection, flower gardening, completing crosswords and word searches, and playing bingo. She also loved people, and enjoyed visiting with those in her life.
Loretta is survived by her son, Regg (Jodi) Jenson; thirteen grandchildren, Maria, Jennifer (Chris), Brandon (Ashley), RJ, Kali, Jacob, Ashley, Sarah, William, Tara, Tiffany, Nathan and Shyanne; many great-grandchildren including, Kori, Noah, Karli, Logan, Hayden, Joseph, Piper, Johee, Madtey, Arliegh, Alicia, Shelby and Lydia; her great-great-grandchildren, Dimitri and Esme; eight nieces, Theresa, Janet, Valerie, Mary, Donna, Linda, Darla Spelbring and Dawn (Peaches) Banks; her nephew, Darven (Herb) Spelbring; and her sister, Janice (Janey) Spelbring, all Spelbrings of Asheville, N.C.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, James Hofer, Violet Hofer and Marjorie Gunderson; her sons, Randall and Earl Jenson; her grandson, Wayne Jenson; as well as her close friends, Arliegh Jenson and Glenn Olson.
