MITCHELL Hurons seventh-grade volleyball team closed the season with a runner-up finish in the Big 4 Tournament on Saturday.
The Tigers opened the event with a 2-0 victory against Watertown using set scores of 25-5 and 25-19.
Quinn Pell was 14 of 14 attacking with three kills to lead Huron. Bentlea Fenske also had three kills and was 14 of 14 serving with eight aces.
Javeah Mallett was 5 of 6 serving with two aces for the Tigers,w hile Hattie Ross and Grace Diede were both 5 of 6.
With set scores of 25-11 and 25-21, Huron swept Mitchell to reach the championship match.
Diede was 15 of 15 serving with three aces and had two kills for the Tigers.
Mallett also had a pair of kills and was perfect on five serves. Fenske was 10 of 11 serving and Pell was 12 of 12.
Brookings edged Huron 30-28 and 25-22 in the title match.
Diede converted on 11 of 13 serves with four aces and had a pair of kills for the Tigers. Fenske was 6 of 7 with four aces and two kills. Pell was perfect on nine serves, while Ross was 8 of 9 and Mallett was 6 of 7.
Eighth-grade
The Huron eighth-grade volleyball team competed in the Big 4 Tournament on Saturday to close the season.
Watertown got past the Tigers with set scores of 25-19 and 25-21.
Lylli Hofer had six kills on 10 of 14 attacks and was 5 of 5 serving for Huron.
McKenna Porisch was 3 of 3 hitting with two kills and Alyssa Urena was 2 of 3 with a pair of kills.
Urena was 11 of 13 serving with two aces for the Tigers, while Sofialin Lian was 7 of 7 serving . Hofer and Arianna James both were 5 of 5 serving.
Brookings defeated Huron with scores of 25-17 and 25-8.
James had a pair of kills on 2 of 3 attacks for the Tigers, while Hofer was 9 of 11 with a kill. Lian and Amari Greene each had a kill.
Porisch was 5 of 5 serving with an ace, while Hofer was 4 of 5 with an ace.
Greene converted on 4 of 5 serves and Taelyn Larson was perfect on three serves.
Mitchell inked 25-20 and 25-14 wins against Huron.
Hofer amassed six kills on 18 of 20 attacks for the Tigers, while Porisch had four kills on 10 of 11 spikes and Urena was 5 of 5 with four kills.
Hofer was also 8 of 8 serving with three aces and James and a trio of aces on 8 of 10 serving. Larson was perfect on six serves, while Urena was 4 of 6 with an ace.
