To the editor:
Promises made, Promises kept a phrase often heard not long ago. Hows our President doing? Lets look.
1. On day one, I will start lowering gas prices. In fact, once he bragged about gas going below $2.00. Yes, it was for E-85.
2. I will rebuild Americas oil and natural gas industry Joe Biden left in a shambles. The last two years of Bidens administration, America was THE WORLDs largest exporter of oil and natural gas. Europes primary source of natural gas was shut off when Russia invaded Ukraine. America filled the gap; and yes, they bought it.
3. On day one I will start lowering the cost of groceries. Hows that workin 7 months later?
4. Tariffs wont affect prices. I really crave Camerons Grog coffee in the AM. Pre-tariff it was $11 to $13 for a 32-ounce bag. Now, its $20. Chocolate? Have fun! Lets be honest, groceries are rising faster than our wages.
5. The Big Beautiful Budget will NOT hurt Medicare or Medicaid. Cutting $650 billion for these two programs in the BBB is self-explanatory. Was Dusty Johnson rubbing salt on the wound when he was extolling the virtues of Congress and the Administrations $50 billion special appropriation to help rural and underserved Americans? $50 billion represents 7/10ths of 1% of the money taken away.
6. Dont worry about future insurance premiums. Mr. President, I recently received the new Medicare & You 2026, the official U.S. government Medicare handbook. On page 127c are listed the most common Part D prescription supplements in South Dakota.
Currently, I am paying $49 per month for my Wellmark BlueCross/BlueShield coverage. On January 1st, 2026, it will be $101 per month. Charlie Flowerss cost with another company will go from $16.50/month to $66.50!
