The Huron High School Speech and Debate Team recently competed at the annual McGovern Speech Tournament on Friday in Mitchell.
This tournament is rather important, said Assistant Coach Jordan Mullen. Most of the SD schools brought many event entries, so our students had their first taste of large-scale competition this season.
Among the several events Huron brought to Mitchell, Emmersyn McGillvrey placed 2nd in Novice Extemporaneous Speaking.
We are busy working toward the State Oral Interp Festival in December, said Coach Halbkat. Every tournament we can get to counts.
The team also recently competed at Sioux Falls Jefferson on Monday in a Novice Debate Tournament, and will compete again this coming Friday at Sioux Falls Washington as well as Sioux Falls Roosevelt on Monday, Nov. 17.
