Huron’s Strand named 11AA Coach of the Year

HURON Dru Strand of Huron was selected as the Class 11AA Football Coach of the Year by the South Dakota Football Coaches Association.

Strand guided the Tigers to an 8-3 record this season, which included an appearance in the Class 11AA playoff semifinals.

This years other honorees were Ross Flemmer of St. Marys (9B); Lex Heathershaw of Wall (9A); Dustin Tschetter of Freeman/Marion/Freeman Academy (9AA); Jake Terry of Elk Point-Jefferson (11B); Mick Thompson of Mlibank (11A); Eric Struck of Sioux Falls Jefferson (11AAA) and Dusty Welsh of Winnebago (all nation).

Selected as Assistant Coaches of the Year were Blaine Bacon of St. Marys (middle school); Brian White of Sully Buttes (9B); Michael Reitz of Estelline (9A); ared Beck of Elkton-Lake Benton (9AA); Craig Novotny of St. Thomas More (11B); Patrick Kleinjan of West Central (11A); Darin Douglas of Spearfish (11AA); Tim Sylliaasen of Brandon Valley (11AAA); and Mckenzie Casey of Little Wound (all nation).

The SDFBCA SD Assistant Coach of the Year/Fran Broyles Award Winner was Sylliaasen of Brandon Valley.

The awards will be presented at Halftime of each classifications championship game Nov. 13-15.
