Kiwanis Club welcomes TeamMates President Craig Rearick as guest speaker

The Huron Kiwanis Club welcomed Craig Rearick, president of the local TeamMates Mentorship Program, as its guest speaker on November 6. Rearick shared information about the newly formed Huron chapter of TeamMates a program with a strong presence throughout the Upper Midwest that is now in its early stages locally.

Rearick highlighted the positive impact of mentoring through TeamMates, citing results from a recent mentor survey:
– 92% of mentors said they leave their mentoring time in a better mood than when they arrived.
– 91% feel supported in their mentoring relationship.
– 88% leave their mentoring time feeling more helpful.
– 85% return to their workplace or home more engaged after mentoring.

He also shared student success statistics from the program, which include:
– 71% fewer unexcused absences among mentees,
– 61% academic improvement,
– 96% graduation rate for actively matched seniors at the end of the 20242025 school year, and
– 77% of high school graduates having a post-secondary plan.

To date, 10,176 youth have been served through the TeamMates Mentorship Program.

Currently, the Huron TeamMates chapter has eight mentors and is actively seeking additional volunteers, sponsors, and donations to help the organization grow. The program has launched at Huron High School and plans to expand into the middle school, with the long-term goal of reaching 4th and 5th grade students as well.
