HURON –– The Beadle County Commission discussed the upcoming annual township meeting date during the regular meeting on Tuesday morning. After some discussion, the meeting was set for Tuesday, February 10, at 7 p.m. at the highway building.
The commission opened the meeting talking with highway supervisor Jason Fritzsche. Fritzsche presented right-of-way agreements for an upcoming structure repair contract. He also presented municipal agreements with Cavour and Wessington to clear snow in those towns as needed. Fritzsche also presented the supply bid for approval. This was set for Feb. 19, at 11 a.m.
Fritzsche talked with the commission about a proposal to regrade and do ditch work on property near Yale. He mentioned that the original proposal given to him likely didn’t take into account a few items, and he would like to check on the cost for those items before moving forward.
The commission discussed the resignation of the Emergency Management and Weed Supervisor. Multiple discussions about how to hire for the position led to a motion and approval to list the emergency management and weed supervisor roles separately, seeking a potential part-time hire for each role.
Commissioners also approved a two-year renewal of the $500,000 county opt-out. This will be published multiple times before becoming official.
Commissioners also:
- Approved the employee listing for 2026.
- Approved renewal of appointed positions.
- Approved a quote from 7 Sons LLC for plumbing work.
- Approved renewal of a conditional use permit for Kaboomers Fireworks.
- Approved the roof inspection for the jail and courthouse.
- Approved renewal of the agreement with First District for GIS website hosting.
The next commission meeting is Tuesday, Feb. 10, at 9 a.m., at the courthouse.
