Aberdeen, Sioux Center claim victories against All-Stars

HURON — Aberdeen capitalized on a pair of power plays to secure a 4-1 victory against the Huron All-Stars in the final game at Bergman Arena on Sunday.

Briggs Medill opened the scoring with a power play goal against the Cougars in the first period. He was assisted on the play by Trayke Roehrich and Carter Vilhauer.

Aberdeen stretched its lead to 2-0 with a goal by Remington Hosley in the second period. Medill and Ridgly Wasem assisted on the play.

Huron put its lone goal on the board to open the scoring in the third period. Crosby Hartman scored on a pass from Alexander Timm.

A power play goal by Austin Schmit just over a minute later boosted Aberdeen’s lead to 3-1. Medill was credited with the assist.

Capping the scoring for the Cougars was Vilhauer. Roehrich and Jace Byram had assists.

Andrew Weisenburger stopped 32 of the 33 shots he faced from Huron to earn the win.

Kaleb Rashaad tallied 35 saves for the All-Stars.

Sioux Center 5, Huron 3
Sioux Center scored the final three goals to earn its first win of the season on Saturday at Bergman Arena.

The Storm defeated the Huron All-Stars 5-3 to move into the win column

The teams traded goals through the first two periods.

Gate Wasmund scored for Sioux Center on a pass from Jalen Topete to open the scoring.

A goal by Jonas Bucklin pulled Huron even, with assists going to Oaklee Schnabel and Jaxon Greenfield.

The All-Stars took the lead with the first goal of the second period on an unassisted shot by Crosby Hartman.

Wasmund then scored his second goal of the game to pull the Storm even at 2-2. Chase Lange and Noam Groeneweg assisted on the play.

Schnabel scored the opening goal of the third period on a pass from Greenfield to regain the lead for Huron.

The lead was short-lived, as Sioux Center used a goal by Silas Hoppe to even the score just over three minutes later. Samuel McCord and Groeneweg assisted on the play.

Landen Pfingsten netted the game-winning goal for the Storm at the 6:16 mark of the third period on a pass from Wasmund.

Groeneweg capped the scoring for Sioux Center, scoring on an unassisted shot with just a second left on the clock.

Jaxson King earned the win in the net for the Storm with 33 saves. Huron goalie Kaleb Rashaad recorded 22 saves.

Huron will travel to face Sioux Center at 5 p.m. Saturday and will be at Aberdeen at 3 p.m. Sunday, before closing the regular season with a 7:15 p.m., game at Sioux Falls West on Feb. 28.

Junior Varsity
HURON — The second-ranked Huron junior varsity built a 2-0 lead en route to a 4-1 win against Aberdeen on Sunday at Bergman Arena.

An unassisted shot by Crosby Hartman put the All-Stars on the board first with the lone goal of the opening period.

Huron’s second goal, which was the lone goal in the second period, served as the game winner. Jaxon Greenfield scored on a pass from Oaklee Schnabel.

Aberdeen had the first goal in the third period to slice its deficit to 2-1, but it would be the lone goal for the Cougars. Teegan Medill scored on a pass from Landon Schmit.

A power play goal by Quincy Rashaad stretched Huron’s lead to 3-1. Greenfield and Jace Gerber combined for the assist.

Carlos Ardon capped the scoring for the All-Stars with a empty net goal on a pass from Phineas Bucklin with 22 seconds remaining in the game.

Gerber earned the win in the net with 23 saves for Huron.

Benjamin Bradley had 30 saves for Aberdeen.

Huron, which is now 14-6, will close the season with three road games. The All-Stars travel to face Sioux Center on Saturday and will be at Aberdeen on Sunday, before traveling to face Sioux Falls West on Feb. 28.

Huron 8, Sioux Center 2
HURON — The Huron All-Stars snapped a two-game losing skid with an 8-2 victory against the Sioux Center Storm on Saturday at Bergman Arena.

With three goals in the third period, Greenfield earned the hat trick for the All-Stars. Also scoring goals were Jonas Bucklin, Oaklee Schnabel, Ardon, Micah Metter and Hartman.

Schnabel, Greenfield, Ardon and Jonas Bucklin each had a pair of assists for Huron. Also recording assists were Maxwell Radke and Hartman.

Scoring goals for Sioux Center were Isaiah Moeller and Mykhailo Vinichenko.

Recording assists for the Storm were Carter DeKoster, Wyatt Majerus and Vincent Scarpantonio.
