HS math
Lately, students have turned problem-solving into an interactive experience. Mrs. Alves’ Sheltered Pre-Algebra students teamed up with Mrs. Fitzgerald’s Honors Algebra 2 students for a lively game of JENGA, using each move to review and solve equations. The collaborative activity showcased peer teaching at its finest, with students explaining strategies, checking reasoning, and learning from one another.

The hands-on learning continued in my Pre-Algebra classes as students explored unit rates using grocery store ads, comparing prices to determine the best buys. My classes also dove into a 3-Act Math task focused on solving proportions- tackling the intriguing question of how many packets of sugar are hidden in each bottle of pop. Through teamwork, real-world connections, and a bit of curiosity, math proved once again that it’s more than numbers—it’s an experience!

HS science
A highlight for students in Earth and Space Science was their participation in an Astrodynamics STEM lab in which they were challenged to design and build various rocket and payload prototypes.

The lab kits were provided at no cost to students by Engineering Tomorrow. In addition, Engineering Tomorrow hosted a Zoom session featuring NASA engineers, who met with students to discuss their designs and answer questions.

Middle School
Huron Middle School is excited to welcome families and community members to our upcoming Parent-Teacher Conferences on Tuesday, March 4, from 1:30 to 7:00 p.m. This important event provides an opportunity for parents and guardians to connect with teachers, discuss student progress, and strengthen the partnership between home and school. We encourage all families to attend and take advantage of this time to celebrate student successes and collaborate on strategies that support continued growth.

In addition to conferences, the evening will feature a student art show and culture fair, open to all students who are interested in sharing their creativity, cultural backgrounds, and unique talents.

These showcases are designed to celebrate the diverse strengths of our students while fostering pride, inclusion, and community connection. Cash prizes will be awarded to first through third place winners in both the art show and culture fair, adding an extra element of excitement and recognition.

We look forward to an evening filled with learning, creativity, and meaningful engagement.

Student Support at Madison 2–3 Center
This year marks an exciting addition at Madison 2–3 Center — for the first time, we have a dedicated Behavior Support Teacher working alongside our school counseling program to strengthen support for all students.

Miss Willemssen, known as Miss W to the students, teaches weekly social-emotional lessons using the Second Step curriculum. These lessons focus on skills such as managing big feelings, showing empathy, solving problems, and making responsible choices. She also leads 3rd grade lunch groups where students practice friendship skills, emotional regulation, and positive peer interactions. In addition, she provides skill-based check-ins to help students apply what they are learning throughout the school day.

As the school social worker, Ms. Fuller provides classroom counseling lessons quarterly using the Choose Love curriculum, which centers on courage, gratitude, forgiveness, and compassion. She also facilitates 2nd grade lunch groups and a few 3rd grade lunch groups focused on friendship, problem-solving, and coping strategies.

Together, Miss W and Ms. Fuller work closely to provide individualized support for students. Miss W focuses on teaching and reinforcing specific social and behavioral skills, while Ms. Fuller provides more in-depth social-emotional support — helping students understand their feelings, build coping tools, and strengthen confidence when navigating challenges.

This partnership allows Madison 2–3 Center to be proactive, relationship-centered, and responsive to student needs. We are proud to continue building a school community where every child feels safe, supported, and ready to learn.
