DE SMET –– Hazel Luethmers became the leading scorer in De Smet Bulldogs girls’ basketball history as the Bulldogs defeated the Estelline/Hendricks Redhawks by the score of 71-23 on Tuesday in De Smet in a game that was rescheduled from Dec. 18.
Luethmers needed eleven points to pass the record, and she accomplished the feat in the third quarter, passing the previous total of 1,617 career points scored by Kennadi Buchholz, who graduated from De Smet in 2022.
The Bulldogs jumped out early and had a 36-15 lead at half, then simply improved their defense in the second half, allowing the Redhawks just eight second-half points.
The Bulldogs close the regular season at 9-11 behind 24 points from Luethmers. Audi Currier scored 15 points, all in the first half, for De Smet, and Harper Anderson added 10 points.
The Redhawks fall to 5-14. Kori Saathoff scored six points to lead E/H.
The Bulldogs will begin region play next week.

CLEAR LAKE — Clark/Willow Lake, which is ranked No. 7 in Class A, tallied a 57-22 victory against Deuel on Monday.
The Cyclones led 41-16 at the half and held Deuel to just six points in the final two quarters.
Four players reached double figures for Clark/Willow Lake, with Shelby Begeman having 13 points to lead the way. Johanna Vandersnick, Kamryn Nesheim and Jenny Bevers each had 10 points.
Begeman had a team-high 8 rebounds for the Cyclones, who are now 16-2, while Nesheim had three assists and three steals.

MILLER — Iroquois/Lake Preston outscored Sunshine Bible Academy 10-3 in the second quarter en route to a 43-17 in a 281 Conference matchup on Saturday.
The Lady Sharks, who improved to 7-11, led 22-7 at the half and outscored the Lady Crusaders 12-3 in the final quarter.

Ciera Mickelson had eight points, 11 rebounds and nine steals to lead SBA, which is now 1-17. Soleil Mickelson had a pair of assists.

DE SMET — De Smet, which moved back up one spot to No. 2 in the Class B rankings this week, inked a 62-45 victory against Wolsey-Wessington on Monday.
The Bulldogs, who improved to 13-4, opened an 18-9 lead in the first quarter and led 30-189 at the half.
Four of the five scorers in the game for De Smet reached double figures. Grant Wilkinson led the way with 17 points. Carter Wilkinson had 14 points, while Slayten Wilkinson and Noah Luethmers had 13 and 12 points, respectively.
Clay Kahre had 15 points, all coming on 3-pointers, to lead Wolsey-Wessington. Larz Tvedt also had four 3-pointers and added 12 points for the Warbirds, who are now 10-8.

CLEAR LAKE — After scoring 12 points in the opening quarter, Deuel managed just nine points in the next three quarters combined in a 61-21 setback against Class A’s third-ranked Clark/Willow lake on Monday.
The Cyclones, who improved to 16-2, led 21-12 at the end of the opening quarter and carried a 38-16 lead into the second half. They then outscored the Cardinals 18-3 in the third quarter to build a 56-19 lead.
Emmerson Larson had 17 points to lead three players in double figures for Clark/Willow Lake. Sully Felberg had 14 points, while Bo Begeman added 12 points.
Felberg also had team highs with seven rebounds and three asssits for the Cyclones. Larson and Chris Bevers each had six steals.

The Sharks trailed 12-9 at the end of the opening quarter, but outscored Colman-Egan 23-6 during the second stanza to build a 32-18 lead at the half.
Brycen Blue and Carter Arbeiter had 16 and 15 points, respectively, to lead Iroquois/Lake Preston, which improved to 8-10. Lucas Peskey had eight points, while Rexton Blue and Ervin Carter each had seven points.
Carter had a team-high eight rebounds for the Sharks, while Peskey had four steals.
Julian Allen led Colman-Egan (5-13) with a game-high 19 points, while Caden Zwart had 10 points.

Logan Mebius had 19 points to lead three players in double figures for the Spartans, who improved to 14-4. Colby Flowers had 17 points and 16 rebounds, while Luke Larson had 1 points and Parker Graff had eight points.
Mebius and Graff each had three assists for Wessington Springs, while Flowers and Wesley Molnar each had a pair of steals.
Individual results were not available for Viborg-Hurley, which is now 15-3.

The Sharks, who are now 7-10, led 33-21 at the half and outscored SBA 15-4 in third quarter.
Isaac Hague reached double figures with 10 points for the Crusaders, who are now 1-17. Henrik Wipf had eight points, while Toby Mickelson and Levi Eveland and six and five points, respectively.
Wipf also had team highs with 11 rebounds, four assists and three steals for SBA. Eveland and Mickelson also had three steals each.
