Kingsbury County wins Region 1B title
WEBSTER — Kingsbury County won the title during the Region 1B Tournament on Saturday an din the process qualified nine wrestlers for the Class B State Tournament.
The Knights amassed 181.5 points to claim the top spot, while Sisseton was second at 154. Clark/Willow Lake was third at 153.5, followed by Faulkton area at 130.5 and Britton/Hecla at 115.5.
Redfield was eighth at 100.5.
Kingsbury County had four wrestlers in championship matches on Saturday, with Greyson Nielson at 157 emerging with the only title at 157. Lane Albrecht at 132, Cody Zell at 144 and Breyten Johnson at 285 were second.
Nielsen is now 30-4, while Albrecht is 28-10, Zell is 28-8 and Johnson is 27-9.
Chase Henriksen at 120, Blake Jennings at 165, Donovan Sandven at 175 and Liam Gunnon at 190 were third for the Knights. Caden Singrey was fourth at 150.
Henriksn carries a 34-7 record into the state tournament, while Jennings is 33-5, Sandven is 27-12, Gunnon is 21-19 and Singrey is 25-15.
Cade Gaikowski at 120, Kaden Wookey at 126 and Cooper Pommer at 138 won individual titles for Clark/Willow Lake, while Isaac Johnson at 150 was second.
Gaikowski is now 37-3, while Wookey is 40-5, Cooper Pommer is 34-4 and Johnson is 35-11.
Maverick Clausen at 113 and Benny Pommer at 132 were third for the Cyclones, while Austin Vig at 165 was fourth.
Clausen is now 39-15, while Benny Pommer is 32-11 and Vig is 36-14.
Jace Edgar at 106 and Maddon Odland at 113 were second for Redfield, while Conner Zens at 138 and Kasey Hermann at 144 were third.
Edgar is now 42-8, while Odland is 37-14, Zens is 31-9 and Hermann is 31-19.
The Class B State Tournament begins Thursday and runs through Saturday at the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls.
Region 3B
WINNER — Miller/Highmore-Harrold and Wessington Springs/Woonsocket/Wolsey-Wessington each qualified for wrestlers for the Class B State Tournament.
Miller/Highmore-Harrold was fifth in the Region 3B Tournament on Saturday with 101.5 points, while Wessington Springs/Woonsocket/Wolsey-Wessington was eighth with 83.5.
Bon Homme/Avon won the Region 3B title with 211.5 points, while Kimball/White Lake/Platte-Geddes 185. Winner was third at 180.5, followed by Parkston at 122.5
Talon Ping won a individual title for Miller/Highmore-Harrold at 132, while Will Hosman was second at 106. Preston Aesoph at 126 and Cade Werdel at 138 were fourth.
Ping improved to 37-7, while Hosman is 40-14, Aesoph is 19-24 and Werdel is 19-17.
Jacksen Carter won a championship for Wessington Springs/Woonsocket/Wolsey-Wessington at 138, while Ethan Rearick was second at 144. Carson Finn at 157 and Jaspur Gran at 285 were third.
Carter enters the state tournament undefeated at 37-0, while Rearick is 33-4. Finn is 21-10 and Gran is 26-13.
Clark/Willow Lake girls claim title at Region 1 tourney

DE SMET — With an individual champion and four other wrestlers reaching title matches, Clark/Willow Lake claimed the title at the Region 1 Tournament on Thursday.
The Cyclones finished with 163.5 points to edge Watertown for the title by a point. Brookings was third at 134, followed by Sisseton. Sioux Valley and Sully Buttes shared the fifth spot with scores of 79, while Kingsbury County was seventh at 71.
Naomi Miller won a championship for Clark/Willow Lake at 135 pounds. She is now 36-6.
Finishing second for the Cyclones were Kadee Frankfurth at 105, Hadley Gjerde at 110, Emma Bochek at 115 and Breanna Ahrens at 155. Frankfurth is now 32-6, while Gjerde is 10-8, Emma Bochek is 34-11 and Breanna Ahrens is 13-9.
Cadence Bochek at 120, Chyanne Guerdet at 130 and Adilynn Ahrens at 170 were fourthfor the Cyclones. Cadence Bochek is 33-15, Guerdet is 18-22 and Adilynn Arhens is 23-16.
Jaidynn Giedd claimed the championship at 170 for Kingsbury County. She is now 27-4.
Payden Coughlin at 120 and Izy Bendorf at 125 were third. Coughlin is now 28-13, while Bendorf is 38-12.
The State Tournament begins Thursday and runs through Saturday at the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls.
