The Beadle County Democratic Forum met on Monday evening at Ryan’s Hangar and heard from two guest speakers.
First was Dan Ahlers, Democratic candidate for governor. He spoke about the changes he would like to see, such as investment in our state’s businesses and increased investment in our school system. Having been a small businesses owner, he understands the importance of local businesses and the struggles they face. As a former state legislator, he knows how to work with others to reach a consensus.
When asked what he would do for our state he answered, “First of all, I’ll be here. I’ll be present in South Dakota and I’ll have your back, working for all South Dakotans, not just some.”
Ahlers also spoke about events happening at the state and national level within the Democratic Party.
Next to speak was the District 22 Democratic candidate for the S.D. House of Representatives Cully Williams. He is from Redfield and has been active in politics for several years, but always behind the scenes. Williams is an EMT at Pine Ridge and is very aware of issues impacting the Native American tribes in South Dakota and also our healthcare system as a whole. He wants to bring fresh eyes to the problems facing our state with the hopes of seeing different viewpoints and finding solutions.
“It is so important that we listen to everyone,” Williams said. “We need to hear from the citizens what concerns them and their ideas for change.”
He also assured the audience that he would read every bill to become informed of what the language says and consider the implications or ramifications a bill could have down the road.
“I am committed to being well informed on every bill,” he said, “and listening to everyone who lives in District 22. I will be your representative.”
The next meeting will be March 23 at 6 p.m. at Ryan’s Hangar.
