Huron Public Library March 2026 events

March is filled with fun, creativity, and community at the Huron Public Library! From festive family celebrations and hands-on workshops to trivia nights, movie screenings, and special guest events, there’s something for all ages to enjoy. Whether you’re stopping in for storytime, testing your skills in a game challenge, learning something new, or celebrating local history, the library is the place to be this month.

Peeps Diorama Contest: America 250th

One of the highlights of the month is our Peeps Diorama Contest: America 250th, with registration opening March 3. Families are invited to create a shoebox-sized diorama featuring at least one Peep while reflecting the America 250th theme. Pre-registration closes March 15, and registered participants must pick up their Peeps by March 20 at 4:30 p.m. Completed dioramas are due March 30 at 4:40 p.m. Community members are encouraged to participate in People’s Choice voting April 1–6, with winners announced April 8. The top three entries will receive a Family Pizza Basket prize. Registration required.

Stack of Luck Pancake Day! on Tuesday, March 17 at 4 p.m.

Join us for a delightful pancake feast prepared by talented high school students. Will they be green? You’ll have to come and see! Guests can customize their pancakes with a variety of delicious buffet-style toppings.

Kids’ Korner (Birth–Grade 3)

March is bursting with creativity, celebration, and family fun at the Huron Public Library! Families are invited to stop by throughout the month to celebrate National Dr. Seuss Day with a special book display and interactive Look & Find activity, designed to bring a little extra fun to your library visit.

Weekly programming continues throughout the month with:

• Bubbles & Books Storytime – Tuesdays at 11 a.m. • Homeschool Activities – Wednesdays at 11 a.m. Registration required.

• After the Bell Early Release – Wednesday March 4 from 1:30–3:15 p.m. Registration required.

• After the Bell Afterschool – Wednesdays at 4 p.m. Registration required.

Young children ages 0–4 can enjoy Music Makers with Emily Salinas on Saturday, March 14 at 10:00 a.m. Registration required. Welcome the First Day of Spring on March 20 by stopping by the library anytime between 2:30–4:30 p.m. (while supplies last) for a sweet spring treat.

Tweens & Teens (Grades 4–12)

March is packed with exciting, creative, and hands-on programs for tweens and teens at Huron Public Library! From STEM challenges and sewing workshops to book clubs and game nights, there’s something for students in grades 4–12 to enjoy all month long.

March Madness Game Hour on Wednesday, March 4, at 4 p.m.

Students can compete in 60-second bracket-style challenges for prizes and a championship trophy. Registration is required.

Among Us in Real Life on Friday, March 6, at 5 p.m. Play a live-action version of the popular game. Complete tasks, spot the imposter, and work as a team. Limited to 14 participants. Registration required.

Duck Stamp Contest Presentation on Saturday, March 7, at 1 p.m.

Open to students in grades 1–12. Learn about ducks and conservation through an engaging presentation, test your knowledge with a fun game, and view artwork from the Junior Duck Stamp Contest. A great event for young artists and nature lovers alike! Final art deadline submission is March 15. Judging will be at a later date.

No School Movie Hangout on Friday, March 13, at 10 a.m.

Looking for something fun to do on your day off? Join us at the library for an exciting PG-rated movie screening of the family favorite, “The Super Mario Bros. Movie”! And don’t forget to grab some popcorn to make the experience even more enjoyable! Laser Tag – Friday, March 27, 5 p.m. Fast-paced laser tag battles with rotating game rounds so everyone gets a turn. Space is limited. Registration required.

Nerf Wars – Friday, March 27, 6 p.m. Team up for exciting Nerf battles featuring games like Capture the Flag and Last Player Standing. Equipment provided. Space is limited. Registration required.

Driving Miss Daisy (1989), starring Elvis Presley. Runtime: 1 hour, 36 minutes. Popcorn provided.

Sensory Movie Morning – Friday, March 6, 10 a.m.

Enjoy a sensory-friendly showing of A Bug’s Life in a relaxed environment. All ages welcome. Popcorn provided.

Computer Basics – Saturday, March 7 or March 14 at 9 a.m.

A beginner-friendly class for adults covering email, web browsing, and online safety tips. No experience needed—just bring your questions! Registration required.

Adult Crafts: Candle Making, Monday, March 9, 1 p.m. or 6 p.m. Create a candle using sand as a mold. Suggested $2 donation for supplies. Registration required.

Adult Game Night, Friday, March 13, 5:15 p.m.

Huron Trivia Night! Test your knowledge and uncover fascinating stories from Huron’s past at this special trivia night celebrating local history. Whether you’ve lived here forever or just learned your way around town, expect surprises. Registration required.

Sew a Potholder (Beginner Sewing Class), Friday, March 13, 9:30 a.m.

Learn basic sewing skills and take home a finished potholder. Led by volunteer Dayna Winter, Certified Master Teacher in Clothing Construction. Registration required.

Aging Well Workshop #2: Polypharmacy and Deprescribing: Managing Medications for Health and Safety as We Age – Wednesday, March 18 | 10:00 a.m. Through this webinar learn how managing multiple medications can improve safety and quality of life for older adults. This webinar covers polypharmacy, deprescribing, and tips for safer medication use. Presented by SDSU Extension and NDSU Extension.

A Celebration of Community & History, March 24, 1 p.m.

Join us for a special ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the renaming and dedication of two important library spaces. We will officially unveil the Mildred McEwen Jones Research Room (formerly the South Dakota Room) and our new Donald Urquhart Meeting Room, honoring two individuals who made meaningful contributions to our community. Both rooms feature commemorative plaques and photographs sharing the stories behind the names. All are welcome to attend!

Author Talk & Book Signing with Jodi Culliney, March 24, 6 p.m.

Meet South Dakota–born author Jodi Culliney as she discusses her series, shares a sneak peek of her upcoming novel, and offers a behind-the-scenes look at her writing process. Q&A and book signing follow. Books available for purchase, plus a chance to win copies of the first three books.
