To the editor:
I wanted to take this opportunity to endorse former State Senator Ron Volesky of Huron for induction into the South Dakota Hall of Fame.
I remember him very well as a passionate state legislator and a very accomplished trial lawyer across this state spanning many decades.
I believe that his abilities as an orator, lawyer, legislator and his positive impact on his state clearly qualify him for induction into the South Dakota Hall of Fame.
Ron Volesky has an inspiring story that embodies the American dream. He grew up in poverty on the Standing Rock Indian Reservation. Through hard work, ambition and the foce of his personality, he graduated from Harvard, became an accomplished trial lawyer, served 16 years in the state legislature, both as a Republican and a Democrat, and and was a candidate for the United States Congress, governor, and three times was nominated for Attorney General of South Dakota.
Mr. Volesky is one of the most talented public speakers that I have ever heard.
I understand Mr. Volesky is not in good health, and I would like to see him inducted as his health continues to fail.
Many of us who know him as a friend hope that he can be inducted while he is still alive because of the important impact that he has made on many people across our great state.
I would urge Plainsman readers to contact the South Dakota Hall of Fame with letters of support for his nomination for induction. This honor is long overdue.
