Josh Carr has announced his candidacy for the City Commission in Huron, citing a desire to serve the community that he and his family have called home for nearly 17 years.
Carr said his decision to run comes from a long-standing commitment to service and leadership within both his profession and the Huron community.
“For me, leadership has always been about service,” Carr said. “After many years of building relationships, serving patients, and being involved in community organizations, I feel this is the right time to step forward and give back to Huron.”
Now working as a financial advisor at Edward Jones, Carr previously practiced chiropractic in Huron for more than 15 years, working in a family practice that has served the community since 1985. Throughout his career he has developed leadership and business skills that prepared him to help guide the city forward.
In addition to his professional career, Carr has been active in several leadership roles. He served as President and Secretary of the Huron Sertoma Club, spent 14 years on the board of the South Dakota Chiropractic Association—including three years as president—and serves as South Dakota’s delegate to the American Chiropractic Association. He currently serves as Vice Chair of the Huron Chamber & Visitors Bureau.
“Huron has so much to offer—from our strong schools and vibrant community organizations to events at the South Dakota State Fairgrounds and a revitalized downtown,” Carr said. “I believe we should continue investing in our community while also proudly promoting what makes Huron such a great place to live and work.”
Carr added that he believes growth and preserving the character of the community can go hand in hand.
“Huron’s history, diversity, and strong sense of community are some of our greatest strengths,” he said. “I believe we can embrace growth while continuing to celebrate what makes our city unique.”
Carr said he looks forward to connecting with residents throughout the campaign and listening to the ideas and concerns of citizens across the community.
