HURON – During his Superintendent report at Monday’s Huron School Board meeting, Huron School District Superintendent Dr. Kraig Steinhoff discussed Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten registration that took place on Wednesday, March 4. Steinhoff reported that 91 students registered.
That number is down from 137 in 2025, 156 in 2024 and 99 in 2023. Because of that low number, the district chose not to post a Kindergarten teacher opening.
Middle School assistant principal Lyndi Hudson presented Jamie Kleinsasser, a para educator at the Middle School, with the classified employee of the month for April 2026.
“Jamie has built strong, respectful relationships with students and staff,” Hudson stated. “She models patience, kindness, and reliability.”
The good news report featured the middle school, with reports on projects to complete missing assignments in sixth and eighth grades, last period open work with seventh grade students, the memory book, and Courtney Clarke shared the presentation that she gave to South Dakota Association for Middle Level Education on bringing the classroom to life with engaging activities.
Linda Pietz presented the curriculum report, sharing that the CTE curriculum has been reviewed and recommended for the 2026/2027 school year. The board approved the recommended curriculum.
The Board also:
Approved the hires of Ruby Crandall in Middle School food service and Amanda Haeder as a paraeducator and library aide at Madison 2-3 Center.
Approved the resignations of SPED paraeducator Lacey Ashley, SPED paraeducator Richard Hotchkiss, SPED paraeducator Destiny Acevedo, speech language pathologist Juliana Janssen, HOSA advisor Rita Baszler Lanners, lunch cashier Teri Jo Waagen, driver Chuck Mahowald, HS science teacher Elizabeth Raml, and HS social studies teacher Andrew Raml.
Approved school nutrition to apply for a $5,500 grant to expand hydroponics to the high school.
