Joyce Schoenfelder, 93

DE SMET –– Joyce Schoenfelder passed away the morning of March 22, 2026 at Good Samaritan, De Smet.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Home De Smet, Sunday, March 29. A small supper will be served after at De Smet American Legion.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m., at St. Thomas Aquinas, De Smet, on Monday, March 30. The service will be live-streamed via www.crawfordosthus.com. A small lunch will follow.

Burial at St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery in De Smet, following the service.

She was born Mary Joyce Yost May 23, 1932, in Miller, the daughter of Mary and James Yost.

She graduated from Miller High School in 1950.

Joyce married her first husband Bernard Stoddard in 1953 and had 7 children with him, Snookie, Douglas, Craig, John, Patrick, Richard (Charlie), and Joseph. She married Alfred Schoenfelder in 1969. She had one child with him, Ryan Schoenfelder.

Joyce lived her entire life in South Dakota. She lived and loved fiercely. Joyce felt her life was exactly as it should be with her faith, her family and her children. Joyce was artistic in many ways, becoming an accomplished seamstress, upholsterer and painter. She embraced her role as a farm wife with the same determination she taught her children.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Mary and James; her husbands, Bernard Stoddard and Alfred Schoenfelder; her brothers: Milford, Robert, John, James, Francis, Jerome; and two of her sons, Craig Allen and Patrick Jay.

She is survived by her sister, Kathleen Biever (Brandon), her children, Snookie (Marina), De Smet, Douglas (Armelita), De Smet, John (Lucy), Ft. Loramie, Ohio, Charlie, De Smet, Daughter in-law Rhonda (Patrick), Burke, Joe (Patti), Sioux Falls and Ryan (Traci), De Smet. She leaves behind 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.
