Clyde Harrington and Tim Burgard, two players who played key roles in Huron College’s third place finish in the National NAIA Men’s Basketball Tournament during the 1979-80 school year, were honored today (Saturday) as they were inducted into the SDIC Men’s Basketball Hall of Fame.
The induction class consisted of 12 men, five posthumously, and was held at the Oldham Community Center, which houses the SDIC Men’s Basketball Hall of Fame.
In addition to Harrington and Burgard, the other players inducted were Lynn Frederick and Curtis Brumsey of Dakota Wesleyan University, Rick Dunlap of Dakota State College, Chris Frick of Sioux Falls College, and Gary Nygaard of Northern State University.
Honored posthumously were Dale Jacobs and Gordon Fosness of Dakota Wesleyan, Brian McDermott and Ed Harter of Dakota State and Doug Nelson of Northern State.

Tim Burgard
Harrington and Burgard were joined in the starting line-up of that 1979-80 Tribe team by Terry DuPris, who is already enshrined in the SDIC Hall of Fame, along with Victor Walton and Joe Naves, and coached by Bruce Carrier.
Huron won the SDIC and District 12 titles enroute to their appearance at the national tournament at Kansas City. They won five of six games there, defeating Wis.-Eau Claire in the third place contest, 59-54. The following year, 1980-81, the Tribe again made it Kansas City, advancing to the “elite eight,’ again behind the efforts of Harrington, Burgard, Walton and Naves. Burgard will be remembered for starting all 125 games of his HC career.
