High School Credit Recovery

As the school year comes to a close, both students and staff are staying focused as they work toward graduation and the upcoming summer break. In the credit recovery classroom, students have been putting in consistent effort to get back on track and meet their academic goals. 71 classes have been completed, an impressive milestone that reflects their hard work and dedication.

For students who are still working through courses, continued support is available through make-up assignments, tests, and quizzes. With determination, commitment, and the support around them, these students are demonstrating that it’s never too late to succeed.

US History

Students in U.S. History are currently exploring the causes, major events, and lasting impact of World War II, one of the most significant conflicts of the 20th century. Through a combination of textbook study, primary source analysis, and classroom discussion, students are examining how economic instability, political tensions, and the rise of totalitarian regimes contributed to the outbreak of war. Lessons have focused on key events such as the attack on Pearl Harbor, the D-Day invasion, and the Holocaust, helping students understand both the military strategies and human experiences that shaped the war.

World History I

Students in World History I have been tracing human history from prehistory through the rise of ancient civilizations, studying how early humans transitioned from hunter-gatherers to settled societies with agriculture and written language. They have explored the achievements of the ancient Greeks, including democracy and philosophy which have greatly influenced modern political systems. The class is currently exploring the Roman Republic and Empire. By understanding these early civilizations, students are gaining insight into the foundations of modern society and governance.

Washington 4-5 Center Music

The general music students have been busy at the Washington 4-5 Center. After Christmas break, all the students spent time learning and reviewing notes/rest and their values along with how to read treble clef notes. We used a song with the lyrics, “Every Good Boy Does Fine on the lines and F A C E face in the space,” to aid in their success. With this knowledge they were able to play many games such as “Rhythm War ” and “Treble Clef Note Races”.

To further apply their treble clef note reading skills, the students will spend the rest of the school year learning to play beginner instruments. The 4th graders will learn the recorder, and the 5th graders will learn the ukulele.

Along with the instrument fun, the students have been busy practicing for their spring concert which was held on March 30th. The title of our program was “Broadway Beat” which included musical highlights from over a century of song and dance. The songs included in our program were: “You Can’t Stop the Beat”, “Give My Regards to Broadway”, “Yankee Doodle Boy”, “You’re a Grand Old Flag”, “For Good”, “Seasons of Love”, and “We Go Together”. The students loved learning about the different Broadway musicals and their songs.
