Bill Wiederich, 87

William (Bill) Henry Wiederich passed away on January 23, 2026. He was born June 15, 1938, in Flandreau, at the home of his uncle and aunt, Edward and Anna Suhl (Lamp), to William Theodore Wiederich and Laverna Augusta Lamp. He was raised in Ward, where he attended a one-room country school from the years 1944 to 1952. Upon graduation, he spent one year at a Christian boarding school in New Ulm, Minn. He then went to high school in Elkton, where he graduated in 1956.

He attended South Dakota State University from 1956 to 1961, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics. In 1965, he received his Master of Education degree also from SDSU.

He spent 35 years working for the federal government. For the first five years, he worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs, where he was a 9th grade science teacher. For the last 30 years, he worked for the Social Security Administration as a field agent in Huron.

During his life, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, traveling, and spending time with his children and dogs. He is survived by his two daughters, Patricia (Keith) Ewy and Wendy (Dan) Ibberson; four grandchildren, Brandi (Andrew) Bauer, Katie (Jason) Pojorlie, Erin Sudbeck, and Zachary Ibberson; and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial visitation will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, at the Skroch Funeral Chapel in Flandreau. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to your local humane society in Bill’s memory.
