Letter – McEnelly 4-18-26

To the editor,

Roy Cohn was Donald Trump’s mentor. He instilled six important guidelines projecting strength in future personal, social and business relationships. As President, Donald Trump has followed them.

1. Never apologize or admit wrongdoing, ever.

2. Always counter-attack, and always with greater force than you received.

3. Use the legal system as a weapon, not as a path for justice. Time and again, people and organizations have won lawsuits overturning executive orders. Is the most recent suit against Harvard the second or third try? Bringing suit is expensive and causes many to fold. Defending the government is also expensive. You and I foot the bill.

4. Manipulate the media ruthlessly. FCC chairman Brendan Carr has forced major networks to alter content or face broadcast license review. “Truth Social” is also a big deal.

5. Fear is both a shield and a sword. “What if…?” is a popular introduction to scary possibilities. Few have been more effective at it than President Trump.

6. Build a fortress of loyalty around yourself. Loyalty over competence has started to express itself. The number of catastrophes and ‘close calls’ on airport runways is rising at an accelerated rate. The world’s most respected investigative bodies and the world’s finest health and health research organizations are shelled thanks to Kash Patel and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Hey, Bob, how’s that promised September Autism announcement doin’?

Oh yes, Roy Cohn was Wisconsin Senator Joe McCarthy’s senior legal advisor. Who was Joe McCarthy? Google him.
