The Huron Public Library invites community members of all ages to take part in a wide variety of programs and events this May. From youth activities and teen events to adult learning opportunities, there is something for everyone!
Kids’ Korner (Birth–Grade 3)
As May begins, regular spring programming will wrap up for the season. Weekly Storytime and After the Bell programs will pause until the fall to make way for a full schedule of summer activities. The final After the Bell program will be held on Early Release Wednesday, May 6, at 1:30 p.m.
Families can look forward to a summer packed with engaging programs, including expanded Storytime opportunities and hands-on activities for all ages.
Storybook Orchestra – Saturday, May 2, at 10 a.m. This unique experience will feature themed snacks, a live performance by the Huron High School Chamber Orchestra, and interactive storytelling. All ages are welcome, and children in attendance will receive a drawstring rocket-themed bag to take home.
Music Makers with Emily Salinas – Saturday, May 9, at 10 a.m. This program is designed for parents and young children to enjoy music, movement, and quality time together. Registration required. Tweens & Teens (Grades 4–12)
Kick off the month with a galaxy of fun during Star Wars Celebration Week, along with additional programs designed just for tweens and teens:
Among Us in Real Life – Friday, May 1 | 5:15–6:30 p.m. Experience the popular game in a live-action setting with friends. Registration required.
May the Fourth Scavenger Hunt – Monday, May 4 | 9 a.m.–7:30 p.m. Celebrate Star Wars Day with a library-wide scavenger hunt. Search for hidden clues throughout the library. Open to all ages; no registration required.
Revenge of the Fifth Party – Tuesday, May 5 | 4–6 p.m. Participants will create lightsabers, enjoy themed snacks, test their Star Wars knowledge, and compete in games inspired by Revenge of the Sith. Registration required.
Early Out Hangout: Craft Stations – Wednesday, May 6 | 1:45–4 p.m. Drop in for creative fun with card-making and Perler bead keychains. No registration required.
New Tweens Party: Level Up! – Friday, May 15 | 4:30–7 p.m. Incoming fourth graders are invited to explore the Tween Area with STEM challenges, games, and activities. Registration required.
Nerf Wars – Friday, May 29 | 5–6:30 p.m. Join us for a safe and action-packed Nerf battle. Registration required. Adult Activities
Sensory Movie Morning – Friday, May 1 | 10 a.m. Enjoy a sensory-friendly showing of Curious George (2006) in a relaxed environment. All ages welcome. Popcorn provided.
Monday Movie – Monday, May 4 | 6 p.m. Twelve Angry Men (1997) — Twelve jurors deliberate the fate of a young defendant, but when one man raises doubts, the group is forced to confront their assumptions and examine the evidence more closely.
Mystery Fiber Bus Trip Registration – Monday, May 4, opens at 9 a.m. Calling all yarn lovers! Join us for a mystery day trip full of cozy fibers, creative inspiration, and fluffy friends. Travel by bus with time to stitch, chat, and relax. Saturday, June 6, 2026 | 8 a.m.–6 p.m. Cost: $40 refundable deposit — space is limited!
NEW DATE! Aging Well Workshop #3 – Thursday, May 7 | 10:00 a.m. Beyond the Will: The Decisions, Documents, and People that Shape Your Estate Plan. Learn how estate planning goes beyond a will, including key documents, decision-makers, and strategies to protect your assets and avoid common mistakes. Presented by SDSU Extension and NDSU Extension.
Adult Clothing Swap: Drop-Off Days: May 7 | 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. and May 8 | 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. Please bring items to the Huron Event Center. Have items sorted by size and counted before drop-off. Swap Day: May 9 | 9 a.m. – 10 a.m. Exclusive access for those who brought items to swap 10 a.m. – noon – Open to the public – $5 per bag (bags will be provided).
Adult Game Night – Friday, May 8 | 5:15 p.m. Useless Trivia Night at the library, where knowing the most random facts might just make you a champion! Registration required.
Adult Crafts – Monday, May 11 | 1 p.m. or 6 p.m. OR Thursday, May 28 | 6 p.m. Patrons will make a jar using mosaic pieces to create a design. Suggested $2 donation for supplies. Registration required.
Click with Caution: Protect Yourself in Today’s Digital World – Wednesday, May 13 | 5:30 p.m. Stay safe and confident online with this easy-to-follow cybersecurity program designed for adults. Learn how to recognize common scams, create strong passwords, and protect your personal information while browsing, shopping, and using email.
Seed Vault Club – Friday, May 15 | noon. Join us for the launch of our Seed Vault Club! Parks & Recreation Director Chad Schroder will present on the Emerald Ash Borer and the threat it poses to green ash trees in our community. Attendees will receive free seeds from our new seed vault to help support local planting efforts. Registration is required.
Library Closures & Late Openings
Thursday, May 14 the library will open at noon due to staff training. The Mildred McEwen Jones research room will be closed May 18 – 22 for painting.
