Tigers finish fourth in Huron Invitational

HURON — The Tigers finished fourth during the Huron Invitational held Thursday at Broadland Creek Golf Course.

Mitchell used a score of 340 to edge Aberdeen Central by three strokes for the team title in the 10-team event. O’Gorman was third at 266, followed by Huron at 291 and Rapid City Stevens at 296.

Mitchell had three of the top six golfers in the event.

Londyn Hajek led the Kernels with a 75, which placed her in a tie for second with Ari Jacobs of O’Gorman.

Maddie Childs shot 76 for Mitchell to share the fourth spot with Geneva Fredrickson of O’Gorman, while teammate Anna Eliason was sixth at 77.

Olivia Braun of Aberdeen Central won the event with a 4-under-par 68, while teammates Chloe Vikander and Emma Dohrer shared the seventh spot with scores of 78.

Huron’s Taylor Sorben earned a medal in the meet, finishing 14th with an 8. Olivia Purintun used a 99 to finish tied for 34th for the Tigers, while Elle Waldoch carded an 107 to finish 44th.

O’Gorman wins Yankton Invitational

YANKTON — O’Gorman claimed the top spot with a 340 at the Yankton Invitational on Friday at Hillcrest Golf and Country Club.

Mitchell was second at 343, while Brandon Valley was third at 345. Rounding out the top five were Aberdeen Central at 358 and Yankton at 385.

Huron competed in the meet, but didn’t qualify for a team score.

Ari Jacobs led O’Gorman with a 79 to finish third, while teammate Erin Hurd tied for fourth with an 80 and Geneva Fredrickson was sixth with an 82.

Olivia Braun won the event with a 73 for Aberdeen Central, while Vanessa Smith of Brandon Valley was second at 75. Anna Eliason of Mitchell shared the fourth spot with an 80.

Taylor Sorben was the top golfer for the Tigers with a 102, which put her in a tie for 35th. Olivia Purintun was 60th with a 116.

Next up for Huron is the Mitchell Invitational on Friday at Lakeview Golf Course.
